  • I haven't heard of insect cat food, I will have a look. Sounds interesting.

  • I think all the offerings from Slimfold are Vegan though they don't mention it on their website so I could be wrong https://www.slimfoldwallet.com/

  • It definitely is. The ones I’ve found still contain “animal fat” (unspecified) and salmon oil, which I guess are low grade bi-products from other products, but even so, replacing the meat with insects has reduced its footprint by quite a lot.

  • I've had a quick read and it sounds promising. I'll read some more and maybe order some trial packs to see if my cat would eat it.

  • We’re gonna get Jam on bugs once he’s old enough.

  • I walked past this on Chapel Market today, hadn't seen it yet:

  • It you ever find yourself in Sheffield and want some fancy vegan food I can highly recommend V or V. There's a vegan black forest gateux on the menu!

  • Looks amazing. A visit to Sheffield just moved up the travel list

  • Other vegan treats in Sheffield are The Blue Moon Cafe which is very cheap and the vegan bagel at Made by Jonty

  • I've wanted to visit Make No Bones in Sheffield for a while. Heard good things.

  • What multivitamins do people take? I have always taken holland and barrett's vegan one but I'm wondering if there is a better option.

  • Weird question, but how do these taste?

  • I saw this today, a nice feelgood story about a chef's rise and his changeover of his restaurant to vegan food, plus foraging à la René Redzepi and his use of a permaculture site (which is actually what I find the most interesting about it), all while retaining his Michelin star:

Before you get too excited, it's in Frankfurt am Main.

The restaurant's rather sparse web-site is here:

  • Weird question, but how do these taste?

Very mild citrus, a little unnatural but overall very mild and doesn't hang around.

  • Thanks, will give them a go.

  • Just finished watching Simon Amstell's Carnage. A bit heavy-handed but engaging nonetheless. Absolutely fascinating watching the old [not so old really] advertising glorifying meat consumption for children, and the sexualisation of dairy products. Those yoghurt adverts are certainly bizarre watching in that context.

  • Where's good for a quick dinner round Camden?

  • Mildred's, obvs - they're usually booked up at weekends but take walk-ins. We ate their yesterday, there's a great new brunch menu.

Also Purezza, Temple of Seitan, about a million places in Stables Market.

  • Cheers! Had Temple of Seitan last night in Hackney, just as good as I remembered.

  • Vegan pie and mash shop in the market is good

  • This is good:

The French chef Alexis Gauthier, who runs fine-dining restaurant Gauthier Soho and plant-based restaurant 123V in Bond Street, both in London, decided to stop serving foie gras in his establishments after activists from Peta demonstrated outside and he read up on the meat and dairy trade.

He now serves a faux gras at his Soho venue made of mushrooms, lentils, walnuts and cognac, and says the concoction has emulated the buttery taste sought after by foie gras fans. Since this year, all the food served at his restaurants is plant-based.

Hm, I Am Nut OK don't seem to do their Foiegeddaboutit pâté any more, or at least it's not in their on-line shop at the moment. I have no idea if that tastes like foie gras, as I've never eaten that, but it's lovely. Hope they haven't discontinued it.

  • As far as I know, Gauthier have gone completely vegan now. Their taster menu was always amazing and well worth the extra bit of cash to go there... nice but small selcetion of trappist beers as well... if you like that kind of thing ;)

  • Yes, that's why I excerpted the bit where it said that they had. :) (Well, 'plant-based', which I think is an expression that's sometimes misapplied, but I thought meant 'vegan' here.)

Lots of restaurants seem to be doing this (going fully vegan in one step from being a meat place) at the moment. It used to be mainly vegetarian restaurants that did it. I think it must have something to do with the increase in the 'fake meat' industry.
