  • I’m not edge myself but I’ve been into the music side of things for years now and I agree with you on the canned water... is there still a scene in London these days, not been to a gig for a while now

  • Amazing value

  • thought that was why they starting making energy drinks look like beer cans; so the kids could look 'tough'...

not sure if serious or just having a laugh

That all said, I can't really take the concept seriously or believe it's even real :-)

Actually I think we will see a lot more drinks in cans in the future, as it begins to dawn on people that plastic is shit for the enviroment.
Though I'm not sure how much energy is needed to recycle those cans, even if one can do that indefinitely?

Anyway that Liquid Death guys seem a bit like hip fuckers that are pretty full of themselves.
    That ad..
..what the fuck, is that supposed to be funny? Waterboarding, yea?

I wasn't questioning this, just the whole 'liquid death' product; that trailer was so appalling on so may levels I just couldn't believe it wasn't some kind of hoax.
Turns out it really is real

  • I'm now taking 1xday of Veganicity B12 1000ug and 1-2 capsules per day of Vit D.
I seem to be low in Vit D most tests (unless I've just done TransAm or TCR).

  • Actually I think we will see a lot more drinks in cans in the future, as it begins to dawn on people that plastic is shit for the enviroment.

Indeed it is but Aluminium can production is resource heavy and carries a fairly weighty carbon footprint when it is not from recycled sources. Luckily we do recycle cans pretty well and it does massively reduce the environmental impact but there is no "green" disposable drink container. Its the disposable part which we need to get out of the mindset of people.

  • What strenght are the vitamin D capsules?

  • I've been taking Vit D regularly for maybe two years now and I still get low Vit D tests back. It seems to fluctuate quite a lot. Even last summer when I thought I was getting loads of sun in the UK (relative to normal UK summer) I still tested low Vit D.

  • That sounds strange. Low as in lower end of recommended range?
2000 IU should get you a pretty good level, that is then topped up by exposure to sunlight

  • Low end of Normal. I've just had a look and I was in the red (below normal) in April (kinda makes sense, post-winter) and July (doesn't make sense) last year. Highest level was actually Feb this year, but that was still lower end of Normal. I've bought another tub of capsules and I'll take one to work and then try and have one tab with each meal. Perhaps the way I'm taking them means they're not being utilised effectively (ie. iron with vitamin c). I don't know what helps absorption of vit d though.

"Fat tissue sops up vitamin D, so it's been proposed that it might be a vitamin D rainy-day fund: a source of the vitamin when intake is low or production is reduced. But studies have also shown that being obese is correlated with low vitamin D levels and that being overweight may affect the bioavailability of vitamin D."

"Levels of the bioactive form of vitamin D tend to track with the health of the kidneys, so in someone with kidney disease, bioactive vitamin D levels decrease as the disease gets worse, and in end-stage kidney disease, the level is undetectable."

    That's me fucked then.

  • it really is real

I wasn't questioning this, just the whole 'edgy' marketing. It's pathetic. Fuck them.

  • Its the disposable part which we need to get out of the mindset of people.

    Indeed!

  • Yeah, I thought about obesity and liver issues, but calling a guy out as a fat drunk on the internet seemed a bit agressive. 😂

Taking it with food helps with absorption, and iirc there’s a mineral that helps too.. magnesium or selenium maybe.

I would increase dose to 3-4000 iu, and if that didn’t work, switch brand, and if that didn’t work, see a dietician.

  • fat drunk

    You rang?

I'm going to take one cap with every meal and see what that does to levels.

  • Any tips for upping protein intake? I thought I was doing alright, loads of beans & pulses, tofu, leafy greens, protein shakes after training (& the morning after) but was still feeling fucked about two days after hockey practice (there are other factors at play here I know, but protein was the first one a PT friend recommended I look at). Actually worked out my average intake & it looks like I'm getting about half my recommended protein! I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to double my intake! I already eat a lot of food!

  • Are you getting enough vitamin B12?

  • Possibly not. I'm taking the VEG1 daily tabs.

  • loads of beans & pulses, tofu, leafy greens, protein shakes

And still at half your recommended intake?? It's boring but huel helps me a lot with this

  • Fucked up how? Lack of carbohydrate post exercise will leave you flat afterwards. Protein has its place but CHO is more important for sports, especially repeated bouts of sports.

  • How much protein did they recommend? You didn't mention nuts, they're the best source in terms of protein per unit weight, maybe eat a few handfuls as snacks

I've read around 1.0g/kg body weight is right for cardio athlete people and I'm 95% sure I don't get enough through normal meals. I asked in this thread a few pages back, wanted to track it in MyFitnessPal or something and write down what I found here but never got around to it. Am still alive I guess

  • As I established on the last page those aren’t strong enough to get to optimal levels (unless you also eat lots of fortified foods?)

How much protein are you getting?
