Joss, we're going to Cook Daily/Home again.
Sorry you can't make it, Jon, but hope you have a good wrap party! Not that the occasion is particularly joyous. I've followed it in Private Eye a bit.

Someone called Barry has filled in the Doodle poll--is that you, Mancini? If you're someone else altogether, Barry, do pipe up. Looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow, 6:30pm at Cook Daily, Shoreditch Boxpark.

Thanks Oliver, you're right, it's not exactly a good time to see old colleagues but what can you do... hope you all have some good grub and I'll try my best to be at the next one... if anyone wants to try and go somewhere at the weekends, let me know as I'm in London full time now... on another note, Barcelona was great, found a nice place called Flax and Kale which is 70% vegan and 30% oily fish, great if your other half isn't vegan. They make their own juices and milks on the premises so if anyone's going, I'd recommend it highly.

Interesting stuff:
http://fatgayvegan.com/2016/04/05/plant-based-burger-looks-and-tastes-like-meat/
They've certainly got their USP sorted, bearing in mind that while this looks a lot like meat mince in the video, you can't taste it from that. Hopefully, it's not some belated April Fool's video that's got misfiled somehow.
As for 'would you eat it?', I'd probably try it at least once, although I once had an uncomfortable experience in a Chinese restaurant when I ordered something that had imitation prawns in it. Those tasted so much like actual dead prawns that I couldn't bear to finish them. I'm certainly not too keen on it oozing 'a blood-like substance' when you eat it.
It's interesting what they claim about 'heme' and how that is supposed to be what gives meat its 'meaty' flavour. It's clearly a gross simplification of what is understood by 'heme', as a casual glance at Wikipedia suggests, but you never know, there may be something to it.

• #2695
Interesting stuff there, I'd give it a bash but understand about the whole meaty flavour thing, that might be a bit of a turn off
-
• #2696
A lot of people justify eating meat "because it tastes nice"* and they don't care (or don't know) about the other aspects (animal welfare, envoronmental etc), so if you want to convince those people to eat a plant based diet then providing a substitute for taste/texture seems like a good idea.
(I still think meat tastes nice, I just choose not to eat it these days)
