Exposure Revo? Have a look at their blurb. Might be MTB.

Isn't the point of the DE dynamo lights that they have to have a wide beam?
-

Interesting, thanks.
It seems that the original Revo was designed as an off-road light, but it's not so clear with the current version.
Exposure list it in their off-road section, but in the detail call it "road commute specific" and under Recommended Use give it 1% for All Mountain and XC versus 100% for Road and Commute.
I'll get in touch with Exposure and see what they say.

What does that stand for?

See also Sinewave's new lights. @Black_Rainbow_Project will be able to give you some idea about their usage.

I thought their lights were optimised for road use and cast a narrow beam so as to not dazzle oncoming traffic.
-
• #835
Wider and lower I thought

The Beacon looks interesting, both the battery pack option and the charging: I was planning to spec an Igaro.

Lower makes sense, but wider seems counter-intuitive: I'll look into it, ta!

Ah ok, thanks.
I'll look into that lens, cheers

Revo is off road, there is only one version. Their website is just a bit rubbish. Has a decent wide (round) beam, paired with a helmet light I've been really pleased with mine.

Using "wide" and other words is a bit confusing as you can use it to describe the beam shape and intensity...
Road-specific lights generally have long and low beam pattern, whereas off-road tend to project a fuller (round) shape (good for spotting branches etc.). I'd probably associate "width" with how focused the beam is, regardless of shape.

Thanks for the info.
So even with an off-road beam, you still need a helmet light?
-
• #842
You might not need one but they are handy when going very slow/pushing (although the revo standlight is pretty nuts), looking ahead on "techy" descents (focusing on places your bike isn't pointing at the time) and for opening farm gates/going for a piss etc.

I would always use helmet light offroad. You don't want to be 'flicking' your front wheel into sharp corners to see where you're going to go.

• #844
Understood, thanks.

Not sure if this would be better asked in the Brompton thread, but the front light has gone on my Brompton (a "basta 425 halogen")
It runs off a bottle dynamo.
A bit like this:
Struggling to find replacement bulbs, so I'm also looking into replacement options.
Any suggestions?
Ideally a cheap and cheerful option that has a small battery so it stays lit at traffic lights.

B&M lyt plus. Plus meaning standlight.
Comes in different brightness levels.
Good sideways visibility. Has a switch that fell off on one of mine though, b&m quality not always incredible. -
• #847
Sounds spot on!
Cheers.

Can you run a front LED light and rear incandescent? I was always wary of doing this because I thought this might overload the rear light and blow it.
-
• #849
Good point.
Rear is a non-standlight, so I guess if it does blow replacing it might not be the end of the world.

Anyone got any dynamo lights going unused? Alternatively, anyone need anything Bike24?
Are there off-road specific lights, ie wide beam?
Or do people just supplement with a head torch?
