@Sparky Re: lights I'd go for a midrange b&m front (^^) and Topline rear. Side visibility is a big thing for B&M.
Cable routing: I'm about to try using Di2 cable strips, I'll let you know how I get on. Previously tried sugru with some success, thing is it's rather permanent (or single use). Route: I favour rear cable to go between fork crown and guard, loose section over to underside of DT, under BB, along NDS chainstay, across front of end/dropout, up rack stay or guard stay. You may find it better to route inside rack if catch will clash with cable.
Doesn't have to be a bodge.

Not sure, still in skinny bars world myself. Must exist. Try sjs or Geoffrey Butler/Bikesplus in Croydon for dynamo stuff.

There are headset ring mounts around which seem like a neat solution, i.e. just under bars rather than attatched to them.

Good tips, ta. Will get a wheel built up (chap's really busy at the mo) and then come back for light options. Going with black Alfine hub to match my rear Alfine.

Can you run two rear lights off a dynamo hub? Just thinking about having both a mudguard and rack light when we electrify Liz's troll later in the year.
Obvs could just do one on battery instead. -
• #608
I do. Two B&M rear lights running in parallel off a Cyo.

Ed yep! The standlight only worked on one of the lights when I tried it, but yes it works. Mine were in series, might be that this doesn't happen if wired parallel.
btw apols for no reply re: TA stuff! Got cold feet as I have lots already, and changed plans etc. ebay!

What's the difference between the Supernova E3 Pro and E3 Pro 2 lights? Can't find much info online and supernova haven't replied. Ta

Any reason not to mount a dynamo light quite high up. I'd be running this exact set up:
I need to clear a bike packing bar bag and so I don't have any racks or carriers to mount to. I also don't think there will be enough room under the bar bag for the light to attach to the fork crown.

I'd be curious. I was wondering if I'd get better light throw and less driver upset if it was under the stem/bars pointing down compared to the brake hole mount it currently uses.
-
• #615
I'm trying to work out something similar, want light under stem (quill)... Someone said it may make the shadows around pothole edges less obvious, but surely that's just if you ride with your nose near your bars I guess ...
-
• #616
a driver has to see you to be upset... so it is sort of a win.
Normally I'd not suggest pissing them off but given the high incidence of SMIDSYs...

I'm a muppet.
Thanks - that's useful.

Problem is they see you then get pissed off then flash you (even though my light is aimed down). Which I think is a bit rich given they have 2xeleventybillionwatts lights aimed at you but still I'd rather it not happen.
Cnuts that aren't looking aren't going to see lights no matter how bright they are so the ones that do, I'd rather be nice to.

One obvious downside of mounting that far up is cable routing.

^Cable up the steerer?

I love it when you talk dirty.

I think my Luxos USB thingy finally gave up today after 18 months. A couple of hours in cold rain on Saturday, then hung up in the shed this morning may have killed it.
Started rolling out of the lane and the lights were flashing before I'd turned them on. Pressing the handlebar switch killed the lights altogether and they wouldn't come back on so I had to leg it home and take the train :(
Hopefully sending it back to Rose/BUMM for inspection or replacement as it's only about 18 months old and they seem to be fully aware of the water ingress issues.
Before it died though, I noticed the indicator LEDs flashing quite brightly, seemingly at random. I eventually worked out that the LEDs (and presumably the lights themselves) get brighter when a car approaches from the rear - i.e. headlights get close enough.
Am I imagining this, is the light totally fucked, or is this a magical feature that I didn't realise existed?
-
• #624
I think there is such a feature - at least I've noticed the same behavior on mine.
But I think it's very much linked to where the lamp is affixed. I had it on the front of the rack, and since I've moved the lamp to the fork's crown, I haven't noticed it. -

Hmm that's interesting. Mine's mounted out the front of a rando rack too. Hadn't noticed the flashing lights till I used panniers instead of the rack bag, which obscured the rear of the light.
Can't see anything about it in the user manual or on the website. Wonder if it's a glitch with the daytime/nighttime sensor?
Anyone know about any 31.8mm handlebar clamps to attach dynamo lights to? Want to mount my IQ-x to handlebars/stem ideally rather than fork crown.
