  • diode test setting

    I just get a 1 both ways

  • Actually I get somewhere between 500-1500 on first contact in one direction, but it goes straight back to 1

  • That’s probably the stand light capacitor charging.

The test voltage on one of those things might not be enough to make current flow through the LED, so I don’t expect you can tell much with it.

The best way to test the light is to connect it to a dynamo and spin the wheel. You can use the meter to check if the dynamo is outputting a decent voltage. Set it to V~ and see if you get a reading. It will be 20-100V with no light connected and 3-10V if you connect at the same time as the light.

  • Thought about this for my bike, VO guards though. Are you confident the guard is stiff enough so the light won't bounce or wobble a bit? Small bounce = big beam movement. I was thinking of a strut like a rack support that went from the fork mid eyelet and looped over the guard. It'd need an L bracket to fit the guard and light but that's what custom builders are good, at right?

  • Just get an extra fender strut. You can run it from the drop out or from mid eyelets.

  • Can the Edelux 2 power a B&M rear light, or is it their own one only? I seem to remember there being something about them being DC.

Also the cable looks hardwired, anyone ever tried replacing it? (thinking about the inevitability of deciding I want it on a different bike in a few years)

  • The Edlux has no issue with a B&M, done it a few times. You can always trim a wire and splice in quick connections.

  • Can't seem to find an answer to this.. Does the power switch on the IQ-X toggle the rear light as well, or only the front?

    vvv cheers!

  • Does both front and rear on mine

  • Had this printed by @Stonehedge a while back. Thank you again if you happen to read this. It lifts the light up off the fork crown, uses the underside of a garmin mount.

It’s been there for a few thousand km, and has been superb. Wiring is still the temporary job I did the 1st day. I’ll get back to it.

  • Ooh, would love a file for that. STL would be good but STEP or something else I can open with Fusion would be even better. @Stonehedge

  • Edelux II works with B&M; think it's the Exposure lights that only work with their own. I just spiral the cable up the fork leg to leave me with enough slack for future changes, but IIRC SON will repair/replace cables for a fee (and offer a 5-year guarantee against failure anyhow).

Re. IQ-X, it's available for ~£75 at the moment, which makes it the best bang for the buck powerful light at the moment; the IQ-XS is 70% of the light for about half the price (from Germany at least), so more than adequate for town use. The IQ-X can be mounted upside down as well, which is nifty. The Edelux II has better build quality and warranty, and is prettier, but whether that's worth the extra £50 probably depends on how much of a bike tart you are...

@wot designed his own part. I've got an STL for it but maybe wot can help with step...

  • Cheers, yes my sensible side has almost won out.

  • Mine almost did, but then the Shiny! triumphed...

  • Anyone here interested in trading their polished silver upside-down Edelux 2 for my black one?

  • @Tijmen PM some contact details. I can share a step.

  • Would you be interested in an new/unused polished-silver IQ-X?

  • Sorry. Already got one of those. For a retro Rando bike so the edelux is a must.

  • It was a long shot :)

I’m not wild about the bracket for the IQ-X, and I’m newly the proud owner of a black Son hub (so would quite like matchy matchy malkovich malkovich).

  • So I’ve see this solution mentioned, but never executed. Here are some rear dynamo wires heat shrinked to the rear brake housing.

  • Neat! The next time my hydraulic hose comes apart this is what I’m doing.

  • That's how mine is set up, works well. I ran the exposed section of brake inner inside a teflon tube and heat shrink wrapped the rear light wire to that so it's covered for the full length.

  • Spiral wrap looks like a good method too. Perhaps less faff when you change cable-outers.

  • Bought 2 aliexpress dynamo light (fake supernova?) silver and black.
Impressed by how quickly they have arrived (less than 10 working days).
    Soon I'll use the silver...
