  • Which gloves: Sealskinz cold weather or Castelli Diluvio.

  • Castelli.

  • Based on experience? I've the Sealskinz gloves and think they are excellent.

  • Is this going to be merged with Any question answered?

  • No, not if people stop asking questions in it.

  • What makes you think they will?

  • Is that a rhetorical question?

  • Shouldn't it be answer, then question?

  • perhaps.. What do you think?

  • It should.

    Or should it?

  • who knows?

    you?

  • Burma.. Quiet revolution?

  • I think it should, but what do I know?

Aren't we all just waiting for the merge-atron to stop with the dwarves in custard?

  • Burma.. Quiet revolution?

    Pardon?

  • I'll attempt to halt the mergertron..

damo. When did the urge to be a molecular biologist come upon you?

  • I dunno. I went to university to study Biochemistry, thought "what next?", decided I didn't want a job in the food industry or a pharma company. Wanted to do a PhD (it looked good, enzymes, DNA, UV, Sexy undergraduates hanging off me).
I don't really know, I stumbled into it without thinking. I love talking and reading about science and having nerdy conversations. DOING science isn't like this. It's 12+ hours a day, boring routine, hanging around with people who enjoy those things, far too much pressure to get the next grant, not enough pay.

I did it because I did well in exams at 18 and 21. That's how I became a Molecular Biologist. I thought it would be exciting and interesting, research shows that research is rarely this.

  • At nights, usually nights, usually after the recurring nightmare of "Have I done all my corrections and has my Thesis been submitted and is it all ok?" I wonder why the fuck I didn't do something more proactive about a career at a younger age.

  • Enlightening. Thank you damo..

  • I'd also advice my younger self to go to med school after the first 3 years of university.

Brave: How did you get into meeja?

  • ^and to spell check things as well.

  • would you rather go down on susan boyle or david beckham?

  • Front or Back?

  • has Balki returned from his self imposed exile yet?

  • I'd trombone the hell out of Beckham before even contemplating a feel of Boyle's clammy flesh

  • ^^^^ Well damo, I worked my way down to this job.. It has been a series of happen chance really and nothing I ever studied for or even aspired to. In my late teens I was a model. This lead to me be asked to present various "youth" television programmes during the 90's. These did well. I earned good money, travelled the world. While filming these I developed a keen interest in camera work and specifically camera lighting. Not have the pure driven desire to be a TV presenter I quit and fucked off to the French Alps where I meet Mrs Brave. I came back from there and pursued a career behind the camera. training as a camera assistant and sound op.. From my experience working in TV I was asked to direct and produce for the company where I was working. After three years back on location I was once again mired in the hatred of TV but knowing nothing else took my first desk job coordinating camera kits and crews. Pretty much it really.

I still loath the industry.. And in fact looking to to get out.. But I earn a decent wage and my dispassionate approach actually makes me a good negotiator..
