  • i'm not on of those hippies or bio-product freaks

  • i'm sxe since 8 years, which means for me no alc, no cigs, no drugs, no coffee, no black or green tea and i don't missed anything in these 8 years.

See, to me that sort of pointlessly arbitrary (green tea?) self denial and associating yourself with a scene that celebrates it seems kind of sanctimonious. I don't know why but it irritates me.

Whatever works for you though I suppose.

  • 3 years and 6 months sober.

    إن شاء الله

What does the bit at the bottom mean, Tiswas? No I won't fucking google it. It looks like Arabic?

  • this is getting too righteous for me. im going for a coffee.

    no thanks.

    +1

    please no one say again.

  • @ Tommy. I know what you mean, I have a good friend who is terrible at a quiet pint. He is more of a two gears man: go hard or go home. It is usually the former.

Go Hard or Go Home. like it. i used to be that way inclined, many years ago. but the bigger issues i had the more i appreciated time over a pint chatting.

My problem is I drink quick, my pint is gone by the time my partners-in-crime have taken the top off theirs. this isn't a bad thing as I never have a lot of time in pubs so get there late, knock back a few quick ones and head home.
But my drink consumption has dropped right down since i injured my leg and caught the flu, no exercise puts me off drinking, i prefer the rewards framework that comes with a post ride pint.

I also love the taste of Ale and Bitter, a CAMRA member with a keen sense of taste.
I remember when Exmoor beast was on at the Greyhound, the perfect winter pint, really well kept. i got slaughtered before i knew it. it was pure necter!

I don't drink fizzy drinks and can only stomach small amounts of fruit juice. refuse to pay £3 for flavoured water.. leaving me left with a narrow choice when i go to the pub, sadly you nearly always meet friends at a pub.. life is tough

  • I don't drink any diet drinks at all. Nothing that contains artificial sweetners. That shit'll kill you man. I'm considering starting a movement I'm going to call NA (no aspartame). My band is pretty influential in the burgeoning NA scene and a lot of kids are beginning to wake up to what we're doing, what we stand for and are identifying with the cause. It's going to be huge I think.

Aha just realised that's because you're guzzling loads and loads of oolong tea (getting high on that mental shit), which is semi-fermented, so therefore neither 'black' nor 'green' tea. Loophole.

  • i'm doing this for me and you can do/drink whatever you want, i don't will critize you. and i don't need the word straight edge for that, because often people think then in phrases like punk-kids, church-freaks, sect member....

  • my problem with the tag is that i feel it either means:

people want to be part of the 'scene'
people want congratulating for not doing things
it's usually used by people who want to drink but are trying their hardest not to.

I have never been into alcohol, but in college, lots of people became 'striaght edge' with me....needless to say, i'm the only one who still doesn't drink.

@Eightball - if you harm Moby, i'll make sure the coast is clear. :)

  • I stopped drinking at the age of 17.
    11 years later i haven't had a drop since.

Very admirable, is it a case where you have no off switch? a well kept bottle of wine or seasonal Ale is majestic at times. I don't feel the need to Never drink.
But i have stopped getting drunk- destructive drunk - for fun

This always pissed me off, I just go for cordial now, you get looked at as if your scum but I'm accustomed to that.

it's even more irritating if they wear a t-shirt or badge proclaiming the fact.

  • @tiswas Oh OK, 'God Willing'. Ta. I get why you said it. Well done for staying off for so long. I would say, notwithstanding all the 'meh let's not be holier than though' up there^, that I still find that admirable.

Part of this, for me, started when I realised that beer doesn't agree with me. Like Greasy I love good beer. So I had to rethink my behaviour when at the pub. Cider is often disgusting, rarely served well I find. So I'm sort of enjoying not bothering to drink much, rather than being totally abstenant.

  • Allow me.

It's an wholly inappropriate use of the phrase, and not relevant to my sobriety.

God made you stop drinking!!?? What a selfish arse, it's alright for him with his omnipresence and eternal power, but telling you to stop drinking, while he is out at these middle eastern parties turning water to wine.. but fking hypocritical if you ask me

if its Lime Cordial then i am sorry Tommy but i am with them. Lime cordial drinking scum like you are why this country is going to the dogs, creating a mongral nation! sorry but thats the way it is

  • Clive, Not drinking is no excuse not to come to North drinks.

  • Greasy you;re a funny chap.

God I'm missing beer A LOT.

I think he was just saying that he doesn't assume that he won't be tempted to drink, there but for the grace of god go I, kind of thing

get on the absynth Skully, you know it makes sense.. well it will by the third

  • £3.20 for a pint of Guinness I was paying the other night.......three.....*pounds *and then twenty pence??!! Time for a rethink.....

i guess it's about self control. i love the taste/flavours of good wine/beer/spirits but hate getting really pissed i have a switch that kicks in and i start drinking water or just stop the alcohol when i get to a certain level of inebriation. i hate the room spinning/confusion and the puking that can sometimes follow. it's been years since i have got that pissed but do occasionally get a bit merry and offend my dinner guests.

  • Greasy you;re a funny chap.
