    3. "You do NOT mess with the fixed gear "community"" (air quote fingers on the "community" bit would be a bonus of 100 points)
    4. "Don't steal bikes bro"
    5. "Shame on you! This colour sucks!" :p
    6. Must waggle finger in face with hand on hip, beyonce style
    7. "Look, the tyres are still as when it was stolen. You can't even skid!"
  • Robo, just PM'dyou.

  • of course it's not impossible that the current guardian of this bike is on this forum

  • Roxy, it's about intimidation, not confusion.

  • People, bring on the ruccas. We have an owner... and they are on the phone

  • Just a thought - worth remembering that they may have bought it in good faith...

  • if it helps, it's not the first time it's been locked up there. it was either late last week, or early this week, but it caught my eye with the downturned bars.

  • Just a thought - worth remembering that they may have bought it in good faith...

  • Get the police down there now and do not release the locks until ordered to do so.

    Come on Justice!!

  • In the eyes of the law stolen goods are stolen goods no?

It's the buyers responsibility to make sure they are purchasing legitimate goods, afterall they lose them with no come back if they are stolen.

  • If everyone who purchases a stolen bike has it taken away from them with no compensation what would that do to the stolen bike market?

Yes, I think you're right. It's just a dangerous area. The amount of pricey bikes bought and sold here, on eBay, down the pub. Some must have been nicked at some point, no? Not to cast aspersions on anyone here, but just to say that the complete history of a 30-year-old frame is hard to verify.

    True,

Although the legitimacy of second hand bikes is something that is very hard to establish.

Not that this suggests that buyer should be allowed to keep the bike, but if she seem's genuine then perhaps a forum offer to sort out a rideable bike at a reasonable price may be in order.

Forumenger gets to sell some surplus, rider gets an honest bike and learns the importance of registering a frame number.

good faith my arse, anyone who buys from there must have a sneaking suspicion that it's dodgy

I don't think you'll find many of us who've bought a 30 year old bike from a dodgy fucker down Brick Lane on a Sunday.

Anyway back to the bike rescue...
