We’re currently moving towards rules that outlaw aggressive play, so to condone it in certain circumstances will make things more contentious and unclear. I think we're aiming to reach the point where no-one should ever need to, or be allowed to, push anyone else on court.
-
• #278
i don't think it's aggressive, it's defensive, and within reasonable circumstances, it's down to the ref when to allow this or not.

I think that's the offensive screening player who encourage rude play, more than rules. Screening when your team has possession of the ball is for me a bad kind of play, that "anti-jeu", and I think that a player who make this kind of move need to be ready to get check.
For the forearms, maybe you are right, not mention it in the rule can be a good thing. For me an hard shoulder on shoulder check is more dangerous than a push with forearms. All this is about the degrees of playing. Hit a mallet with my mallet is fine, hit it realy high and make it explode in 2 parts isn't, both are like contacts, but one should be banned.
Using forarms for hit someone, make loosing his bike control by moving his handlbar isn't good.

i've noticed people at tournaments with massive cutouts in the front of their mallets (some cosmic players, rik) who 'push' the ball around and i now do it loads. can we clarify that this isn't ball jointing (as it's not dragging)?
-

all those rules look like an improvement on what's gone before. i especially like the graded punishments but it's going to put more pressure on the refs - hope they're up to it...

Player from Vienna here.
Can someone explain "No uncovered chainrings."I did not know there´s a rule like that.
How do you guys usually cover your chainrings and is that really necessary? Gotta find smth within the next few days ... -.- -
• #283
Put a chain on it all aroundthe chainring, remove it etc... If the teeth aren't too big it could be OK. We don't want big 52 who can easily make damages. (bad experience with it here). I think it's at least important as plugged handlebar.
For cutouts, if the ball trap in like with bj that's bj, sounds logical to me.

clemont, you might think i'm blocking the player, but i'm also trying to get a good postition for myself to receive the ball, in the D and at very low speeds. Aidan holds onto the ball for a long time, but had he passed it quicker or shot, it would be a moot point. There was a lot in that game that went on that had far more wrong with it then holding your ground. nobody ee the T-bone?

I have changed the definition of Ball-joint to include the open sides of a mallet. Good point dan.
4.4 - Ball-joint: Not to be confused with a scoop pass, toss or other ball handling. The ball-joint is defined as pinning the ball between an open end, or an open side in some cases, of the mallet head and the playing surface and then dragging it. Ball-jointing will be allowed anywhere on court, however, before a shot at goal, the ball must be passed to another player.

To be clear on the exposed chainrings rule, it's not applicable to a chainring that is actually carrying the chain, it's in the case that you have 2 chainrings, and the outer chainring is not covered at all, so all teeth are exposed. The only example I can think of is Hannes with his Dingle speed set up.

why not just: " "The ball-joint is defined as pinning the ball between the mallet head and the playing surface and then dragging it."
Seems simpler?
-
• #288
could say that, but it think it's good to be clear that open sides are included in this.
-

chainrings rule also updated.
No exposed chainrings. If the chainring is actually carrying the chain, this is OK, but if there is an outer chainring that doesn’t have a chain on it, it must be removed, wrapped in a length of chain or a bash-guard added.

Hey Clement,
one question about the chainring:
I have 2 chainrings (34 and 38) and I change the gear dependend on the size of the court. Do I have to remove the 38 if I play on the 34?
It would not work to cover it with a chain, because the distance between both chainrings is to small...
Cheers, Hannes!BTW: Can't wait!! Next week...

Remove it. Or I'm gonna slice my leg open on it and get you disqualified.

Hehe!
I like the "pushing with the forearm" thing. Like shown here at 1:30...

I think if the teeth only just stick out past the inner (like in your case, it's not going to be a problem, you'll have to see with clement though, he's the boss.
Hannes, go on google chat man.

what about BJing for a bit then dribling the ball for a few meters and them shooting, it is allow?
or after whatever BJ you have to pass, no matter what -
• #295
if you BJ, you have to pass
-
• #296
rik, if u do BJ u have to tap out twice.
if not u get punched!!!see u in genf!

*Rik, When you have ball joint (not a simple ball trick, but travel with ball) you need to pass, you can touch the ball billions time after, even on the boards, you need to pass. that's it.
@ hannes:
If the theeths aren't too outside, maybe that's good. But I think that if there's an accident even your not guilty and that you hurt someone, it's gonna be you responsability.@Brendan:
MAybe that you don't want to block it in the vids, but the fact is, you did it...
I know that there's no screening rules in europe, but i think its gonna become standard. And if it doesn't, offensive screeners need to be ready to get check. For the forearms, did we kick this out ? opinions please....
I updated the starting rules too:
5 - After a goal is scored:
5.1 - The scoring team returns to their half of the court.
5.2 - The conceding team gets possession of the ball.
5.3 - Play will not resume until the ref blow
5.4 - After the blow, the game begin, no need to wait that player or ball cross the line.*Cause think about the ancient rule (wait opponent or ball cross the line):
The A team leed 2-0.
B team score: 2-1. one minute left.
A team stay in his camp with the ball. Game over. -

So the team that have just scored can start attacking again in the conceding teams half?
This rule also takes away any advatage from the conceding team - that they have to wait for the whistle before going to attack (as well as once all 3 scoring players are back in their half)
-
• #299
No, the scoring team still has to return to their half, but as soon as the whistle blows, anyone can go anywhere on the court, removing the 'can't cross half court till the other crosses' rule. I think it's a good move.
Lets just hope with all these rules, and changes, that refs are up to scratch!
-
• #300
yes, i know the scoring team still have to go to their half, but what if the ref is a little whistle-slow? takes the advantage away.
is the whistle blowed after 2 return or all 3 return?
This.
There's nothing like spinning down the side of the court chasing a 50/50 and having someone push your bars through 90 degrees.
Allowing forearm contact, particularly in that Amsterdam example, seems to encourage aggression rather than moving away from it.
