  • @ hannes...I went to chamonix last year with a volvo v70 and took us 9hours..with 5 people..but we went trough france...we though the german route was kind of "touristic", can you confirm that?

What do you mean with "touristic"?

    Depends on where you stop.
The Autobahn is as boring as the french. But you can go way faster.

  • Were booked on the same, Hannes here we come!

    Nice one!

  • not to mention the french drive in chaos, german drivers are calm, courteous and effecient.

Touristic as in..passing trough every village germany has, little country roads, etc.

  • Josh, I've got one of these bags. Are you going to the Cycle Coo on Sat? or maybe I can give it to someone who will be driving?

  • i'm in rotterdam saturday and won't be in london until after geneva so the second option seems best. thanks!

    Alright.

    Nice!

  • [Jealous]

    Damn you can't make it!

    Next time!!!

  • Definitely next time. On a different note, I've got a magazine for you.

  • The first draft of the rules is done, it's based on the NAHBPC Rules (http://leagueofbikepolo.com/forum/general/2010/07/02/rules-for-nahbpc)

There are quite a few changes, ball-jointing is allowed anywhere on court, but must be passed before a shot. There are structured penalties. Back talking the ref isn't allowed. etc etc. There's also clauses with regard to playing the ball high, you can lob, and block a lob pass, but you can't try and shoot a ball above the height of your bars.

Please have a read here http://j.mp/b7HcxE

They will change over the next few days as clement tweaks them. If there's any changes, I'll update here.

  • no insulting the ref??

  • Good job, but I wonder in what case is the "use of forearms" acceptable?

  • no insulting the ref??

    No talking to the ref!

"- Only the captain of either team may talk to the Referee."

  • @dt, the forearms bit is left in from NAHBPC rules, I agree it's a bit ambiguous, you can be forearm to forearm, but if you push someone's hand or bars with your forearm it's not allowed. Might need to be edited, I'll chat with clement.

  • Forearm to forearm should really be shoulder to shoulder. Any sort of contact with forearms is going to be dangerous since it's likely to involve a players steering arm.

  • The 'captain only' clause is there to stop people arguing with the ref, if there's a real issue, like a mis-called goal, the captain should raise it, I think at this point, the ref could stop play to discuss, but during play, the players should concentrate on the game in hand, and not on chatting with the ref.

    totally.

as it's from the NAHBPC rules, I'm not totally sure what type of play they are referring to, but maybe it's also about defending against someone coming in hard body-to-body, you can raise your forearm up to block them. This though, raises the mallet, and causes other problems.

I'll chat with clement now and see what he reckons.

  • Another quick point: In 4.4, should the definition of a ball-joint be clarified to include the side joints that are starting to appear?

Ie. just remove "an open end of" from "The ball-joint is defined as pinning the ball between an open end of the mallet head and the playing surface and then dragging it."

  • Good idea for the "side-joint".
For the forearms, yeah it's to prevent some shoulders charges. And I think that im gonna put a rules more about the screening when attacking.
For example, A team have the ball. Player 1 drive the ball, player 2 keep the goal and player 3 make screen to a defensive player, like pushing it to the board making him out of the game during the attack of player 1. In this case, I think that the trapped player can use any kind of move to get through the screen, like pushing with his forearm.

  • Uolmo, it sounds like you're saying it would be okay to push someone with your forearm if they are stopping you getting to the ball.

  • If im a defensive player and im get screened, yes, i think i have the right to push the player who screen me.

    for example:
from 9:48 to 10:00 in the final of Amsterdam tournament, Brendan block the polosynthese player for more than 10 seconde. I think that's not a foul for this blocked player to push brendan away with his forearms.
