Yes LCC or try ...
http://www.rjw.co.uk/ctc/ctc-members-welcome/ctc-accident-lineRussell Jones & Walker have a specialist cyclist unit. I will PM details.
Glad you are not too badly hurt. Take care and avoid South London.
Yeah - South London starts at London Bridge and it just gets progressively worse the further south you go :)

just saw this too, glad you are not hurt too much festus, could have been worse.

I've only just seen this, Festus. I'm very glad that your injuries are not too bad. As an LCC member, you have both third-party insurance as well as access to free legal advice. I don't know if it would be the school or the kid who would ultimately be liable, and I hope that this doesn't cause it to be dragged out for too long. Not sure if your own third party insurance would be invoked if it wasn't your fault.
Curiously, it is an offence in Germany to cross a street on foot when the pedestrian traffic lights are red.
Germans shouldn't be allowed to visit the London Dungeon, anyway.

That's your opinion ... I think a law like this would prevent people from always assuming the cyclist is at fault. From what I remember it works well in Germany. Maybe it would prevent people from taking risks when overtaking etc as well? Or it wouldn't be so easy for lorry drivers to say "I didn't see him"?
Just a thought! The bit everybody misses is that the law, as proposed, would also automatically presume the cyclist was always guilty if they hit a pedestrian.
Festus, I hope you're OK man. The way you tell it is that you basically failed what the police call the attitude test. i.e. you didn't look like a victim. The ped and the truck driver probably did. Sucks but that's the way they are trained. -

You are probably onto something here. Sad, but true. And he's riding brakeless amongst other factors.

You should report this to Graham Horwood <Graham.Horwood3@met.police.uk>, from the Met Traffic Unit . He's a lovely cop and pro cyclists.

Fucking hell mate this sucks. Glad you are still mostly intact. I like your philosophy of always riding straight into peds in situations like this. Its the beast way to avoid what happened here.
Most police are fuckers really aren't they -

Ironically given the instinctual reaction of swerving to miss him, what would have happened if I'd have hit the front brake?? I'd have flown head first into a car/lorry/concrete on the traffic island. I'd maybe write this 6 months down the line if, I could remember anything at all.
My luck was hitting the screen square on and spreading the impact- almost like a scene from road runner/coyote.As already mentioned it takes a real piece of work to cause that and not have the decency to ask are you ok? or I'm sorry. Remember I didn't jump straight up screaming blue murder. It was the total lack of empathy that riled me.
Again thanks all for your kind words, sorry if it came across as all testosterone and bile.
.....anyways, I'm to get measured for my blond wig. Might even go all inverse minstrel?

Bad luck dude, remeber though I doubt the kid was being malicious in running away, he is a young student on a trip with a teacher in a foreign country, he was scared it's more the typical response of passers by that it's your fault because you are

- Black (although I'd guess this is least important one but that's my opinion)
If you need any help with your bike let me know and I've got a 1" headset doing nothing if you're in need.

Festus, at least the overwhelming empathy you are getting here from your LFGSS buddies must restore a little of your faith in humanity ;) Really glad to here your ok though mate. Good luck wt the legals, that's the real fucking grief!!!! There's defo a drink from me at SE if your able to make it, would be good to see you.
Snif -

I think being 'brakeless' is going to be problem - legal claim wise - but at least you avoided a collision with the pedestrian which could have been disasterous - legal claim wise .
-
• #66
Brakeless has only been mentioned by east end images so, unless the schoolkid picked up on it, I can't see it being an issue.
-
• #67
just joined the LCC cuz of this thread.
good luck with all the stuff festus.

yeah, a copper i play footy with mentioned the "tude test" which is basically if you are courteous to a copper they will be nice back most times and if not they may make your life difficult. What sucks is when coppers turn up with "tude" themselves and patronise the F*ck out of you for no reason.
Tooley street is a nightmare. You already shouted ahead and prepared for stupid peds and still got f*cked over. I have had too many close calls coming down Tooley street like this so just try to avoid this cyclists hellhole as much as i can.
hope you heal up fella and the bike gets sorted....
-
• #73
Festus that is thoroughly shit news. Glad you managed to stand up/walk away from that one. Heal fast, dude. Unbelievable reaction from public. Not surprised by the reaction from the police but the van driver...?? WAC! Hope things get sorted to a standard that you're relatively happy with.
-
• #74
Fuck me, I'd like to see you play American Football!
Heal up soon and I hope you get some sort of resolution from this.
As for the ped, driver, and driver's boss... WAC.

The paramedics were shocked that I was able to walk away from this. Health checks came back saying I was 3 points off prefect heart rate, 98% oxygen absorption (2% loss thanks to the cancers) and that I'm still 79.346557685% a git.
