why is a 15-year-old Londoner's opinion on 15-year-old Londoners heavily flawed?
You don't know anything about this kid and you shoot him down before he has barely said anything.
you might just learn something here you old codgers. you might not, cos joelovesfixed might be entirely not from in the middle of the yoots dem in their dodgy form, but he may well be.
go on joelovesfixed, i'm all ears, specially the bit about reasoning your way out of situations like this..
I think i've had enough trouble with the aforementioned scum to understand that most pieces of shit knocking about around estates and other dodgy areas are just out there to cause trouble or rob. Learnt this particularly from hanging about walsall when I was about Joe's age. To say these kids are reasonable is fucking ridiculous. Around parts of the west midlands you'd only have to glance at someone for a split second to gain trouble.

no i used to live in hackney, i dont visit poor areas because id probably get mugged by the same twats that are jacking all of your bikes and giving you a shit time
im not saying i can properly comment on the subject but i think i have a good viewpoint, most of you guys are 20plus? im not sure but kids didnt carry knives when you were young, im just trying to say that some of you are getting a bit too apprehensive.
im only trying to put across a point from a completely different angleI saw plenty of kids carrying knives round where I lived when I was younger, like I said, i'm not sure you've quite figured out the world yet, none of us have really, but things haven't changed all that much in terms of the crimes/gangs etc, these were just as prevalent as when I was younger, arguably just not as well publicised then, as they are these days.
But i've seen areas change a lot as well, where I grew up started off really crap but got better as I got older, whereas an area called Ilford up the road, started off really nice, but has got to the point these days where a lot of people would be scared to walk down certain streets alone at night.
If anything the main thing that has changed these days is how accessible guns are to these kids, thats the major problem, knives were just as much as a problem years ago, but the gun thing is getting really bad, when I was in hospital recovering from car crash injuries (I was a passenger), I saw 3 gunshot victims in a week get wheeled in past me, all from Ilford according to the nurse I chatted to, also in one 2 month period that I worked in the area there were two shootings that were major enough for them to shut down whole sections of road, one person had died apparently.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I think your viewpoint on this situation is very naieve, if your theory about reasoning with these idiots is so sound, why don't you go down to Ilford, test it out and let us know how you get on..... -

and they're no different here

I'd take some kevlar with, just in case things don't work out.

well speaking as a bloke who's gf is a youth worker, the problem is that there's a small minority of scumbags who fuck with everyone and everything, and then all the normal/sensible/nice working class kids feel threatened unless they carry a blade. it's a vicious circle, and that's how decent kids end up in these dodgy gangs and eventually socialised into it as a way of life.
in terms of immediate responses to bikejacking, i don't know. but i'd definitely echo the suggestion that you should never cycle along canal towpaths and poorly-lit roads at night for starters.

im not saying all 19 year olds hanging around a shitty area are gona be top lads, if they start something then they want to finish it so it will probably be a good idea to to just run
all of the stories on here sound a bit on the heavy side.
but a large proportion of kids my age are kinda bored.
i was skatin round brixton with a couple of mates and a couple of large, scary looking lads, asked me to come over, chatted to half an hour to them about skatin.
you just never know. if some kids my age saw a guy like james on his bike i highly doubt they'd have a go.
just keep your wits about you but worrying abot your family isnt needed.
you may have noticed, im not very good at putting together at putting together concise points :) -

Not a lot has changed, other than the bike is a bit bigger, i've pretty much given up weed, and I have to do really boring things like work all day and pay mobile phone bills etc etc.
My advice to you Joe, enjoy doing fuck all, its what being 15 is all about, because when you're 24, bored shitless, sitting at a desk writing a post on a bike forum, whilst attempting to ignore the work you're supposed to be doing, you'll be wishing you still had the time to do fuck all! -

well, if they look like a cunt, I don't trust them and i'm always gonna go by my experience. If anything it seems the younger kids are more mouthy will potentially be the worst scum as they grow up.

i belive that children are our future
Send yours to a decent school though.

i dug what you were trying to say joe, the majority of kids aren't out to kill. however, for the already-paranoid London middle classes, who now live cheek-by-jowl with a party of society they have no idea about, mischief-making kids who are plain bored (shouting out shit to passers by, fronting, goofing off between themselves in a way that seems like intimidation but is often just the same thoughtless fucking about a lot of us did as kids) are indistinguishable from those looking to cut someone for the thrill of it or kill someone for the rep.
it's a futile discussion really. you'll notice billa, in the original post, did not get stabbed when he grabbed the kid and held on - neither did he then get a shoeing when the kid's mates came back. the kids at east drinks a few months ago who were trying to nick bikes scarpered when we shouted out to them, they didn't shoot us. Even so, my reaction to kids bringing people off their bikes as they ride down a street minding their own business isn't one that has me looking for solutions to the kids' social problems.
depressing thread, i'm outta here.

ah fuck it, they should be killed, I don't give a fuck.

That cunt who pulled that guy off his bike could have killed him, they should be destroyed. No need for scum like that, NO FUCKING NEED!!
-

sorry lazy of me should have posted the text:
Boris Johnson rescued a woman from three "feral kids" who were wielding an iron bar, chasing them away on his bicycle, it emerged tonight.
The mayor of London was cycling through Camden, north London, on Monday night when he answered the cry of Franny Armstrong, a documentary maker and environmental activist who was surrounded by a group of hoodie-clad young girls.
Johnson stopped and chased the girls down the street, calling them "oiks". He then returned to walk Armstrong home. "He was my knight on a shining bicycle," she said today.
Armstrong directed the film The Age of Stupid, and is the founder of the 10:10 campaign, which aims to cut 10% of carbon emissions in 2010 and has attracted support from leading firms and personalities.
"I was texting on my phone so didn't notice the girls until they pushed me against the car, quite hard," Armstrong said. "At first it was quite funny, because they were only about 12. Then I saw that one of them had an iron bar in her hand. It was more than a metre long. It was as big as her.
"Then along came a cyclist. And I thought, 'Good, he's a big bloke,' and shouted, 'Can you help me please?'
"He stopped and turned around and I thought, 'Oh, my God, it's Boris Johnson.'
"He asked the girls what was going on, and at first they didn't move, so I said, 'That's the mayor of London!' and they ran off. They must have thought they were going to get in trouble. One dropped the bar, so Boris picked it up and cycled after them. He returned a few minutes later and walked me home, and we talked about 10:10."
On her Twitter feed she described her attackers as "feral kids".
Armstrong admitted she did not agree with Johnson's politics, and had voted for his rival Ken Livingstone in the mayoral elections. But she added: "If you find yourself down a dark alleyway and in trouble, I think Boris would be of more use than Ken."
A spokeswoman for the mayor confirmed that he had intervened to help Armstrong, but declined to comment further.
Johnson is something of a magnet for action when out and about. Earlier this year, he was nearly hit by a speeding lorry while out on his bicycle scouting for locations for new cycle routes. And in July, he fell in a river in Lewisham, south-east London, while trying to help a clean-up operation. -

I disagree that it's a good idea to do 'fuck all' when you're 15. If you want to have it a lot easier later in life, make sure you develop yourself.
(Just thought I'd post something to make me sound really old. ;) )

I should have a fag, getting a bit angry here!!!!
I think it would be a lot more effective than a fag if you got your bike back ...

My only suggestion for this scenario, is anticipation.
In the past year I've noticed groups of boys eyeing me/my bike up, as I am approaching them, or going past. At first I thought nothing of it, and it was just curiosity. But after reading of bike-jackings, I realised that some of the kids might well want to relieve me of my bike.
Actually, they were only drawing up mental lists of all the things they wanted to relieve you of:
- Bike
- Mobile phone
- Wallet
- Watch
- Gold cufflinks
:)

yeah well I doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon and with my stolen bike aside, it still angers me to hear of people being put at threat riding their bikes.

How about we set up a ride? The scum ride? Trawl around through east, a beer for any stolen bike spotted. Sounds a good idea to me!
I was taking the piss old bean. This forum seems to have a propensity for sound and fury, which signifies very little. I'm sorry these terrible things happen but do not think that violent incidents are on the increase, or that the youth of today are anything other than those of the vast span of human history. I tend to agree with the young man above, and, whilst again stressing my condolences, do not agree with the hyperbolic missions which are announced on these boards with unerving regularity.
