Help with shorts/jeans alternative... for a lycra virgin

Looking at the Rapha touring shorts they do look ideal. But really simple and of-course not worth anything like £70.

Anyone seen something similar to these?

i got 2 pairs of cargo/chino (whatever they're called) trousers from primark for £4 each, got my girlfriend (fashion student) to take them up to 3/4 length. i wear them with padded undershorts. does the trick.

I've just come to the same conclusion. Was just about to buy these:

Friend of mine is currently patching up a pair off jeans and sewing on a few shirt buttons for me in exchange for fixing and maintenance on her bike. Happy days....
