  • 'if the Nexus 4 had expandable memory, it would be the best thing since the iphone'
    discuss.

  • Who on Earth said that?

Android has been whipping the iPhone since the iPhone 4... and with the Nexus 4 and iOS 6 maps... Apple aren't even in the running. Microsoft are looking better on the innovation front, Apple are just the train with momentum.

  • ^^ I assume he means The iPhone, i.e the original.

Intrigued by the mention of expandable memory, since no iPhone has had that, and seems like most people who would be bothered by low storage levels have things in the cloud now anyway

  • ^^
noone, my understanding of the status quo.
the only android device to be repeatedly ranked above an equivalent iphone is the galaxy s3, no?
microsoft more innovative? (im a windows user, and not an apple fan) what about windows mobile and tablet is more innovative?

    ^
    yeah.
i want 64gb for my music. it's my holy grail. i don't like streaming services for a number of reasons. i personally believe manufacturers and carriers collude to shift the market towards streaming when the market (even the infrastructure) isn't there in ordder to charge a premium on data.

  • ^Interface design is more innovative by microsoft. They've introduced a whole new way of thinking about interacting with a mobile device, with their live tiles as opposed to presenting the user with a list of apps.

I get why google is moving a way from removable storage with the nexus line, but they do seem to have shot themselves in the foot a bit only offering 8 and 16gb on the nexus 4

  • There'll probably be a 32GB one in a little while.

My wife to be is after a new phone, needs to be on contract though, so Nexus might be out as it seems a bit too much that way at the moment. Toss up between GS3 and Note2 I think.

  • Ohhh.... Google Play Music is very nice! Got about 6000 songs of my collection of 15000 uploaded so far.

My entire music collection on any PC or Mac anywhere and it streams to my phone as well! No more filling up the SD card with tunes and then having to delete them again for a new playlist.

    Likes....

    LOTS! :-D

  • How much is it?

  • Free - only just rolled out to the UK though

The idea is great, but it's a bit limiting.

20,000 songs, and what is the space allocation?

  • No space limit, but they do convert them (as I understand it) to 320kb streams

Also, if they find they already have the song, they may use their cached version to give you access. This has lead to a few problems - the sweary album versions are sometimes replaced with the non sweary ones. Also, maybe vice-versa :)

  • I want to give Google Music a try, but I have tried to enable it a few times and I get the 'You are not in the US' error message in the browser. Will try again tonight from home.

Those of you with Nexus 7's have you got your 4.2 update yet? Was saying I was current last night, again will check for updates when I get home.

  • I got it on the Nexus 7 last night, I've not got it on the Galaxy Nexus yet though...

  • I got in a shit a bit with work over streaming so much.
Mind their fucking contract is wank, I could get better deal going to 3 / GiffGaff

  • Free - only just rolled out to the UK though

How on earth do they make any money on it? Serious question I don't know anything about it.

  • So, apparently people are getting emails saying their Nexus 4 might not show up for another 3 weeks... (I haven't had this, fingers crossed).

edit: I just got an email confirming my phone shipped, with a tracking number

I think he's talking about Google Play, not a phone.

  • Nope google play music. Just downloading it and adding my music. Well impressed with this.

    Next step buy a nexus 7 :)

  • I'm guessing they make their money the same way they make most of it, selling your data, can't remember the exact quote but there's the "If you're not paying for a product then you are the product" thing

  • Uploading my shit right now, been waiting for this...

  • Me to. Internet is very slow, might take me a week to upload circa 10,000 songs.

If you are not paying for a product then you are the product is correct

  • Woohoo go go gadget stoner memory!

But yeah, this has definitely removed some of my reservations about the nexus 4 not having removeable memory, hopefully it doesn't rinse the battery too hard

  • Handy to know I can now listen to all my music at work, either through the web browser or my mobile.

I'm actually thinking this could finally do away with my iPod.
