Velocio - dolphin browser is good - it does have some add on's too to make it easier to use.
If you underclock your battery will be miles better. Also try giving Juice Defender a go. I'm yet to buy the full version (3-5 quid I think) but even with the free version I noticed a significant improvement in battery life.

Is anyone running CM10 yet?
Nope but once It's stable I'll stick it on my s2.

Crikey, it's for my dad. He can barely comprehend that moving a mouse makes something happen on a screen, I won't baffle him with underclocking. He went for the Nexus solely for the software upgrades as he intends to keep the phone for a long time and just wants it to work.
My dad is actually someone for whom the Chromebook seems like a good idea.

Oh sorry I meant the battery thing for Dom.
The Dolphin recommendation was for you Velocio.

My dad had a problem with the Dolphin browser. Closing tabs... he couldn't. The x is too small for his fat fingers to hit.
Stock browser seems to be working best, but it would be great if there were some "poor eyesight" mode that rendered pages using a custom style sheet with high contrast colour scheme and larger fonts.
Unless someone has made a really good mobile site, the web is hard to use if you have poor eyesight and a smart phone.
And in the case of stuff he looks at (sites about canals, waterways, motorbikes), they tend not to have good mobile sites.

I reckon you should treat him to a nexus 7!

The rumered new version of the Nexus 7 (with a sim card slot) sounds ideal for people like Velocio's dad, who mostly want it for web browsing, but could do with things being larger.
A new browser version designed for older people with touchscreens would be a good idea for an app.

Bit insensitive, given velocio's drastic income slash.

Any recommendations for a Tabata protocol app? I've tried the free 'Time for Tabata' app and it's crap, so am looking for something better. Main features need to be the ability to save profiles, time the warm up, interval sets and warm down, and play music.

However, last night I installed CM9 and underclocked it. I'm hoping that will give me reasonably better battery life as mine lasts around 8 hours at a push.
Is anyone running CM10 yet?
Was running CM9 nightlies on my GalaxyS(1). Now running CM10 nightlies. Seems fine.

Double tap a tab also closes it

Crikey, double-tap... I think it's beyond him. He doesn't really get double-tap... he's likely to stab twice and scroll the main browser window in the process.
As I said: apps to help older people access the web.
Good idea for someone that.

Has anyone had a play with the NFC on the Nexus, S3, etc?
Was thinking of something like a tag in my saddlebag to turn on GPS, launch Strava, and start recording a route when I put my phone in there.
Anyone tried anything like that?
-
• #8945
I've played with it a little, but not to that extent, I do like that idea though, let me know how you get on!
I've been pointed at http://rapidnfc.com/ as a place to get tags for a good price, and given who pointed me at them, I suspect with very good customer service, but I've not used them myself yet.

Does the s2 have a nfc chip?

You could use tasker to start all that based on your speed of movement ?
-
• #8948
Wouldn't you need GPS on already for that?
-
• #8949
Yes, I wanted to do something like that with tasker, but you have to keep gps on all the time which kills battery. I love the nfc idea, you could put tags under your saddles, and just tap to start.
Please post your outcome.

You could have one in the car to turn on bluetooth or similar too.
