  • My other half wants to go android, from blackberry, but requires a physical keyboard. Options other than desire z or the HTC cha cha? Is there anything on the market or radar that will run 4.0?

  • Once again LFGSS coming through with valuable info on more than just bikes :)

LFGSS Ltd invoice is in the post.. ;)

  • options for a sub £100 phone if my HTC wildfire is dead? looked at a san francsisco 2 on the webz, looks good. no flash for the camera though!

    Try this:

You'll have to additionally look at what Cyanogen version you could put on it. But phoens with keyboards are rare nowadays.

  • Thanks VB. I have to say that i am leaning more toward a slide out keyboard, so as to retain screen real estate.

There are reports of importing Droid 4's from the US and making them work here. Seems like a faff though and not something I would want to inflict on non-techy Tori.

  • Wait a couple of months.

The new Nexus's should turn one up.

  • over my budget i think.

A friend of mine will be selling on his bog standard Desire in the next few weeks for around £50-£60 I think. Will let you know if you're interested? (He's out of the country until next weekend).

  • Cheers steve, I'll keep that in mind!

  • I have a San Francisco 2. Nice enough phone but getting a bit dated now, I paid about £100 for it nearly a year ago.

Very active community for modding, I have ICS running on mine and there are some very stable gingerbread roms.

Starting to notice the slower processor though and the storage is fairly limited so you can't install everything you want (although there are a few workarounds depending on how much you're willing to play with the thing).

Not a bad phone for the price though.

    Not a bad idea.

  • Hate to say it, but I'm going to be watching the Windows 8 phone releases with interest next week. I'm hoping I might be able to afford a low/mid range pre-paid while I'm out in the states next month.

  • Go wash your mouth out.

  • Don't do it. My Lumia 800 is a lovely looking phone and such a pleasure to use, but there are almost no available apps for it. It does basic calls, texts, email and maps and not much more.

  • So the family were thinking about buying sky TV. But they aren't really keen on that pay per month stuff.

Got me thinking - what about an android set top box. I've seen them around but was wondering if anyone here has experience with one?

My other alternative is to build up the Raspberry Pi and really make that in to a media centre.

  • Flashed a new rom which didn't take properly and is stuck on the boot screen, the pc won't recognise it so I can't put a different rom on.

Any thoughts? I haven't got a microSD card

  • Pull the battery and make sure you press the right buttons when you turn on to get to recovery, if you can't do anything useful from recovery, reboot into download mode and reflash from there.

I'm the same. Can't stand not having a keyboard. Still running my Milestone although its seriously dying. Thought about getting the Milestone 2 but its just too old.

I'm sure I'll get used to a touch pad thingy.

I'm in the same boat. However, I understand from a number of random blogs that towards the end of the year there may be some new android phones launched with slidey keyboards or keyboard options.

The manufacturers are very away of how many dissatisfied blackberry owners there are and will soon go all out to capture the blackberry market.

  • Hope this is true, not sure how much longer she can prop up the blackberry...

  • Note II pics are out there, on G+ at least. Looks like a big SIII.

i bought the HTC chacha on ebay unlocked for £70.

Great little phones, does everything i want it to.

  • New Google Maps released yesterday seem to have fixed the problem they introduced on the Sensation.

  • Also has knowledge of cycle routes and gives cycling directions.
