Surely you guys would keep a new phone in at least a stylish rubberized case while its still in its first year of use? No?

Ugh. I hate even entertaining the idea of putting phones in cases. This is a failure by the designers, they know that within normal use phones are going to get dropped, scratched and battered about. They should be working harder to make phones more robust rather than relying on users to buy 3rd party cases to solve the problem.
(my galaxy nexus is suitably battered.)

I only opt for cases that have inbuilt battery in them giving it twice as much battery life than usual as well as protecting the phone.
Otherwise it'll be pointless having a thick case that just protect it.

Don't like cases, my S1 has done 2 years with occasional drops and being left near keys in bags and it's fine, 1 tiny scratch on the screen and 2 small indentations around the edge of the phone.

My Desire Z has taken an absolute battering and is absolutely fine. Really impressed with the construction quality/durability of this phone.
Likewise, I know blasphemous to mention in here, but my iPhone 2G took many tumbles, on the corners, the face and survived with just a crease in the chassis around a weak point (the hole for the 'vibrate' switch). I think the metal chassis was the screen saver of the 2G that all the others are losing out on.

Also, does anyone want to buy a Galaxy S? Perfect condition, no scratches never been dropped.

Well the whole point of incognito mode is pointless: the browser wasn't even running and my gf was playing with the nexus, presses the application switching button an boom, a porn video that was closed long ago had magically remained there...
Luckily she just pissed herself laughing which is a relief because we've never really spoken about the whole porn thing before...Still getting the hang of android, it seems.

Time to bring out the whips.

Ha ha made me crack up!!! Learn to close the window after!

Also how the hell do I turn the camera sound off on the Galaxy S2???
-
• #7838
90% sure you can't on stock.
-
• #7839
Balls - It's annoying thinking of rooting based on that alone.
-
• #7840
when the phone is set to silent the camera doesn't make a noise.
-
• #7841
Yes it does.
-
• #7842
I had the same problem with my first S2 but they must have resolved the issue in more recent stock kernels, no such issue with my current one. Rooting isn't that hard, and is worth it for adfree and setCPU alone.

• #7843
Ah, I'm sure it didn't use to on gingerbread.
-
• #7844
Yes it does.
mine doesn't

Something to do with regions on the phone apparently. Looks like rooting is the only solution right now. Which could be good - I'd love the see the rooted battery life of this phone, desire battery life blew me away when rooted.

What's peoples experience of average monthly data use like here?
I've got a 500 meg limit but am rarely away from wifi. It seems android's constant calls home to serve you adverts is the culprit, or as they call it "background data". -

I have 500mb a month and rarely hit it.
I do have various apps to stop this phoning home though.
-
• #7848
Phoning home?
-
• #7849
I'm on 500 too, but I had to do a few things like prevent Marketplace automatically updating apps when I'm not on wifi, otherwise I could quite easily hit the 500 mark after about 3 weeks.

anyone successfully upgrade to ICS on a mac?
Yeah, I've not put sim in yet, don't know whether to wait it out and send this one back or just stick with it, it does look very nice, I'm tempted to stay white, the screen on my s1 already looks like an old nokia 2110.
