The weather app on my HTC describes today as
"London, Dreary"...

My Desire, which previously had 240 photos stored on it, now has none. It also has fewer apps on it than when T4 had it. It says there is 2.63 gigs available out of 3.66 total space on the SD card but only 14 on the internal phone storage. All apps that allow shiftage to the SD card have been shifted. It keeps freezing my texts. I have swype, a known problem-creator. I notice all these apps put on the phone by HTC, that I don't want. How do I deal with those?
I understand many hacks require rooting the phone and risk bricking it. Are there any other options? I don't understand why one user would have so few problems, despite more stuff on it, and I have so many!

^ All classic symptoms of it being done wrong. ;)

if you have lost all the pics etc.... can't you do a factory reset, then log in to gmail to resync all contacts etc?
-
• #7185
I've used photorec to recover deleted pictures in the past.
-
• #7186
Oh, sorry what I meant to say was that I deleted all photos and do as many purges as possible as often as possible (I now have something like 8 photos on the phone) but there's practically no space and the phone has stopped syncing emails and often gives me the warning message that there's not enough space.

I see the point of my post was clear only to me: I want to get rid of stuff on the phone so that it runs smoothly again.

Huawei S7 Slim Android Tablet (WiFi)
£99.oo. Perfect for rooting?Looking at this more now, really would like a tablet, whats this like against the htc desire in terms of spec? My phone is fine and to be honest I'd just like a bigger version of that!
The alternative would be something like this;
http://www.ebuyer.com/pre-order-scroll-extreme?hpb=2 But that's quite a bit more pricey.

Everyone I knew that was using it has shifted to Linux Mint.
Personally I have been using xubuntu for years and generally found XFCE to be better for me.
FWIW, I just tried out Linux Mint 12, Ubuntu 11.10, and Xubuntu 11.10.
Unity is a major step backwards, but I found it very easy to revert to the 'classic' look and feel. Once that was done, I felt that Ubuntu was still significantly better that Mint or XFCE. I'm going to stick with Ubuntu for the moment.
I only used each for about 10 minutes before making my decision, but Mint and XFCE felt more rough around the edges, and less polished.

I've been off this thread for a while and have totally lost touch with most of the jargon here.
<<But I just had a chat with Vodafone about getting an 'upgrade'. I have to [strike]loose [/strike] lose my old contract of:
1200mins / 500mb / 500txt / stop the clock@ £30/mth
to
600mins / ulmtd net (for 3months-> 500mb) / ulmtd txt@ ≥£30/mth
but with a new handset, a Galaxy S2 or HTC sensation.Not really sure why I'd need a quad core atm since the handset I've been using has weaned me off the bleeding edge of phone tech. Which way would you go?

Ask for a renewal, Fest... They're trying to bum-rape you...
-
• #7194
^^ I get that sort of thing every year. I.E. I'd get better deal if I keep with existing contract OR let it finish, leave, come back as new customer 1 day later. Unless you are a hardcore user (£50+ over your bill every month without fail) they won't offer you jack.
Right, TWO things...
1) Skype has FINALLY got video calling dialed android > android. Thought trying to get g/f to make it work via a phone that can't call anyone is next to imposs, which is problem 2.2) SGS1 - This is the 3rd replacement handset, 1 & 2 were in 1st few weeks with essentially same problem.
Hangs up when it feels like it, even with perfect signal and no change in conditions, it just decides 'you know what, i'm gonna end this call, and not work again until you turn me off, rip my battery out and start again'
3rd handset has now started doing it to the point battery contacts are fucked.
Oranges response? >>> 'Sire you are 20months into a 24month contract and this kind of wear and tear will not be covered under your services standard warranty, to repair this handset we will be making a statutory charge for misuse /abuse of the handset as set out in our contract'
WTF orange, you used to be decent people. This is the 3rd phone with an already detailed existing problem that you have acted on before for me (and hundreds of others with exact same well known problem), yet because I'm nearing end of contract your pulling the fast one.
SREKNAWPhone is running 2.3, USB socket is knackered thanks to the same problem (to get it onto samsung kies takes between 20-50 reinserts of the USB cable until it decides to play ball and update, will not do over the air updates, usb now so wrecked can no longer update which is half the problem I think). I knew the SGS1 was powerful at the time of its launch, but shoddy build quality (I've had £10 payg tesco phones that were built to a higher standard) has entirely let it down. SGS2 sounds interesting, but the very fact its made by samsung puts me off

So, the new iPad is oput, and its a revelation, in screen display, and has a quad-core GPU, but a dual-core CPU. With it still hot in the hands of journos, Samsung release this:
Personally, I like my smaller NOTE. I wouldn't get the bigger one. I'd rather the Asus Transformer Prime instead of that.

)
) <-- c=:No kisses before or after.
My contract is really old and they've been wanting to end the 50% discount applied for a long time. They say they will not renew it after May doubling my cost.
I don't even come close to using 1200mins these days yet it feels wrong that to stay with them I end up paying more for less. A new handset was always a standard feature of an annual upgrade BITD yet the bloke I spoke to was all "Well if you want a premium handset Mr Williams then..."
It's gonna be old tech in 2months!!
I compared the costs on Giffgaff/ebay:
handset ≈ £300 + £20/mnth (800mins + unlmd txt+net) and the Vodafone deals still appears to win.Unless anyone knows of better deals than those on the table? Also which handset would you choose?

Funny my gut instinct was to stay the fck away from Samsung. I've never been impressed by anything I've owned/used of theirs but I'll take on users experiences.

My SGS1 is 18 months old with 6 to go, on Orange. I flashed from 2.1 to 2.3 using Odin because Kies detected my phone but refused to present me with an upgrade option. Now running CyanogenMod9 Alpha, Android 4.0.3.
The hardware's been fine and the OS really wasn't buggy at all until I started on this CM9 build where the GPS has been a little moody.
I reckon you had a bad batch, plus Kies really sucks...
Snottyotter has his SGS1 on CM9 too, his only real woe as far as I know is that his GPS chip is from an early bad batch.

Can I get subtitles for this?:
