Does anyone have any recommendations for phones for smart phones for +60yo's.
My dad wants to be able to access his email on his phone and is talking about getting a BB. He has an old skool pop email fwiw.
Any thoughts?
Touch scene or buttons?

I would suggest a BlackBerry also. And, though it may rankle with some on here, the Nokia Lumia 800 may be the ticket for him. Worth a try for sure.
If going with an Android phone, I'd recommend one that has a physical keyboard.

My mums is 60 and has no problems with her iPhone 4, as much as I love my android phone I reckon they are much easier to use.

^^^^^^^^^ This is true. iPhones are designed for anybody to use. Though I still can't recommend Apple at all.
On another note...... FUCK YOU GOOGLE!!! I don't want motherfucking iGoogle, so why send me there now? I just wanted the clean and simple Google homepage. I have now switched to BING, till you come back to your senses.
And breathe........
OK, the new weblink for the standard Google page is: http://www.google.co.uk/webhp?nomo=1&hl=en-GB

What about a cheap android with Big Launcher?

My nephew forgot his lock screen pattern for his Wildfire S, and doesn't know his google account details. Just advised my sister via txt on how to factory reset his phone.
No other way to get back into the phone right?
Could he try to find out his google details by trying his emails on google via pc? of if he at least knows his username then type 'null' as a password
http://einartysen.se/unlock-android-phone-after-too-many-pattern-attempts/Or try calling the phone and see if you can access the menu through there
Otherwise, I don't have any ideas apart from a reset

Cheers.
I'll look into it. Had a brief scan on the net of that new massive samsung phone/mini tablet. I just think it's a bit ott and too big for his suit pockets. Plus he looses things.

That looks awesome.

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but you just buy any android phone and then install a program called "Big Launcher"?
-
• #6510
No there is a slot that you can put your big launcher into.
-
• #6511
lol.
get the ZTE phone also known as the Orange Monte Carlo. It's cheap as a PAYG phone and you can install Cyanogen or some other decent build on it for them, with the aforementioned big launcher.

I might have to withdraw the Big Launcher recommendation. I don't think you can change the default homescreen buttons, so getting to email might be a pain in the arse. Investigate before purchase.

^having watched the video you can reassign the buttons

also i'm less than impressed with the camera on my desire hd, esp indoors, are there any good camera apps people recommend which will make the pictures less grainy?

Take it off auto ISO and reduce the ISO to reduce noise in photos.

My Xperia X10 started playing up a few weeks back turning itself off when the battery was at around 50% charge. This got progressively worse to the point that by Tuesday I made 2 x 30 second calls on a full battery and the phone turned itself off as I was dialling a 3rd number.
I ordered a new battery Tuesday which arrived Wednesday and problem is now solved.
If you stumble across this reply on a search, I got the OEM battery from an Amazon seller called Just Genuine for £4.85 delivered. -

Does anyone else use Handcent? If you do, have you noticed it being very slow for the last couple of weeks? Want to know if it's my phone or the app has gone to shit.

Judging by my mothers experience with her LG (something or other), I wouldn't recommend one of those. It's actually like watching a monkey fucking a football.

Handcent is working fine for me on the most recent update.
-

Hmm must be my phone, it takes about 7 seconds to open the app and it just goes downhill from there.

Awesome, then?
My parents struggle with touch screens (including a laptop touchpad). The idea that they don't have to use physical buttons has led to the following annoying scenario more than once:
"What does this do?"
prod
"Oh, what's just happened? What did it do? Why did it do that? I didn't press it, I only pointed at it on the screen I don't like it." -

Awesome, then?
Totally.

Yeah, handcent got really slow and was quite a memory hog. I switched to GO SMS Pro and haven't looked back. It's really great and has a cool 'scheduled SMS' feature which I like.

Oh cool, it's not just me then.
Although it's only 2 out of a sample of 3...

Mine has been a bit slow at times, may try GO SMS if Mashers says it's good...
