I'm surprised they got a patent like that. Any patent needs to show originality and something as vague as that doesn't and you'd question it's validity with regard to prior art, i.e. it's been done before. A lot.

That said, we used to get some really surprising ones at my last job (I was a member of the patent board).

Since Apple stole all the GUI shit from Xerox, i doubt it.

Basically, even if they have to remove multitouch, it's still supported by the hardware so hackers will produce custom roms to support it and bob's your uncle.

Me, I was unsure, still swinging between a blackberry or android for my next phone, but this lawsuit says to me that the android must be awesome.

Patents are defensive weaponry, you attack by out-innovating and executing better. You use patents (which are slow as hell) to defend. That screams "If you can't beat them, sue them"... which also screams, "Nexus One has leap-frogged the iPhone".

So now I'm 100% on what my next phone is.

Apple were never cool. Google were never cool until they started doing Android. They're just a search engine (okay as a web nerd I think their search engine is cool). I never said they weren't evil. I said their phones are better than crApples.
