I installed CM7 on my Nexus One... Android 2.3.3 goodness.
Whilst I don't have an NFC reader built-in, my colleague is jealous that my software has better support for it than his Nexus S has.

Be interested to know how you get on...I'm running redux 1.1.2 at the moment, which seems pretty clean and quick...

Power button on my Nexus One now only works if you pinch that corner of the phone between thumb and forefinger, whilst pressing the button in, and then only when you get the precise pressure.
Booo.

Lil, I think there have been some memory card and also some update issues relating to the X10's ability to hold a charge. I didn't want to answer because you seem very clued up on all things to do with the X10. If you have recently migrated to Android 2.1, then that seems to have caused some charging issues for some owners. I think a rollback, saving all settings then a re-update back to 2.1, might solve things. The memory card could be affecting the overall phone performance also. Remove, reboot, re-insert memory card. Oh yes, remove battery for 5 minutes before the reboot. That seems to help.
Sorry if you knew all this, as I suspect you might. Other than that, yes, a new battery seems a good bet.

Upgrade was smooth, no issues and apparently I get a fraction more battery for the same app usage.
So, not bad as upgrades go.
Though I'm not feeling the overly green theme.

Thank you Ashe. It's behaving today/yesterday so just will keep an eye on it. If it continues I might take your advice before getting a battery. I am clued, (I do try and read up on things) but not that clued up :P
Hopefully it will get Gingerbread, as boyf is having this phone next when I get the upgrade in sept. -

Power button almost totally dead on my Nexus One- rendering it next to useless.

Anyone got an Android phone I can purchase?
-
• #4487
@cyclotron, if you mean the HTC desire S, I have got one and have had it for about a week. I love it. So quick, battery life is great, 2.3.3 is brilliant. Wi Fi is super quick on it as well.
As a pig in shit.
@dammit - My old Motorola Milestone is available, running android 2.1. I have really liked it for the last year although it is a tad slow compared to my new phone, but it is an older piece of hardware... The physical keyboard is a joy. Mazuma will give me £50 for it. Interested?
edit: Four dibs on Milestone now, so no point PMing me :-)

Would anyone have experience of somewhere in London that can repair HTC Nexus One handsets?

What's wrong with it?

Power button=does nothing.
Only way to get the phone to wake up is to plug the charger in- not so useful when out and about.

Ah well, if it was software I could probably help... but hardware is beyond me. Carphone Warehouse?

As in, did I purchase it from them? No, direct from Voda.
It's a well known fault with these- the power button relies on a daughterboard, and after a while it breaks away from the main board with the repeated stress of button pushing.
However, I may have hastened the end of mine by dropping it, it fell out of my locker onto the floor of the gym and hit the very corner where the power button sits.

can you buy a replacement board and install it yourself?
Last time I took apart a mobile it was pretty simple, everything is modular so quite easy to replace the faulty part.

• #4494
Willing to give it a go, just not sure where I'd buy the bits.

Mashton, PMd you re: Milestone. Been looking for a cheap QWERTY board Droid phone for a while.

Vodafone should be able to replace it like they did for me.

Two sides to the same (security) coin.
The USARMY has plumped for the Android OS for its battlefield mobile devices. To me, this says that they expect to customise the Android environment enough to suit their specific needs, whilst engineering a level of security not available to the public. Surely then the efforts by Motorola and also SAP, to bring Android kicking and screaming to an enterprise level of security and functionality, can be given a bit more credit. In fact, I'd be surprised if Motorola isn't the defacto advisor to the USArmy on this - they have been their partners in Android before. They already have supplied walkie-talkies and portable emergency radios to the USARMY for years.
And now the flipside. Kaspersky has stated that Android is being swamped with malware. Its said that the lack of control over apps is the main problem. Its a case of buyer-beware, and users would do well to invest in a security app, or apps, for their devices. Its been noted also that the unofficial Android app markets offer a greater chance of malware infection, than the official app market - though it is still not risk-free.

My Nokia N900 has just died... Slightly glad as I was sick of Meamo. I'm after an android handset, and putting my faith into the knowledge here. What is the best phone for the money? Ideally something still current but available second hand.
it was fully charged when i woke up at 11.30, went on fb for 5mins and sent a message and it went down to 81%.
Le sigh. New battery needed me thinks?
