  • Desire.

  • Desire Z? Wait for the dual-core phones?

  • Annoying question
So I've whittled down my smart-phone manufacturer conundrum to just HTC. The desire HD is too big so do I go for the desire or the incredible s? Someone said there was a new desire coming or is that the incredible s?

Guy at work got the Incredible S. Looks like a good option. Almost as powerful as the DHD with a slightly smaller screen and bigger battery capacity so longer battery life. He's not super techy or anything so I won't be able to get any geeky info out of him but just looking at the specs the other day it seems pretty sweet. Do you want a soft keyboard or a physical qwerty one?

  • Won't do HD video tho'...

  • What do you mean? Won't record it?

"720p HD video recording" taken from HTC's website: http://www.htc.com/www/product/incredibles/specification.html

  • Apparently... Just watched a review on some dozy Aussie site... Don't shoot the messenger...

  • Dunno where you lot get your info from.. tut tut.
I don't do video anyway. I'm sure you trendies might like to film stuff.

  • shoots messenger

  • Cam makes BMX-skateboard-faggot-bike-golf-snuff movies... HD video is an essential box that must be ticked...

  • Actually, maybe it was the Desire Z that doesn't shoot HD video... Meh...
    #whocares #justtryingtohelp

  • The only time I've recorded video on my phone is when I've drunkenly set the fucking thing to video so I get 5 seconds of wobbly footage of the stripper I was trying to take a photo of..

  • shoots messenger again

  • PM'd...

  • Ok I think I'm gonna go for the incredible unless I hear anything bad about it here or from the bloke at carphone warehouse. Don't need a proper keyboard, HD video is a plus as is a good camera. I'll mostly be using it to fuck about on. Will possibly report back.

  • My housemates Desire HD has really shitty signal and sometimes just stops receiving calls for a while. He called customer support and they changed his connection frequency or something and it got a bit better but is still shit. Is this a common problem or a faulty unit?

    Carphone Whorehouse? shakes head

I've not noticed problems with mine. No signal on the Tube or under my building though.. refund?

Our office has shit reception, iphone 4 gets no bars, my DHD gets 1 or 2. Switching from 3g to 2g helps the iphone but I've not bothered trying on mine - the calls work.

  • I'll tell him to get it replaced then. He has no signal in our living room at all, but our mates iphone also didn't so we put it down to the brick walls or something. But then he had no signal in the middle of trafalgar square either, which makes no sense.

  • Yeah, try it out with another phone nearby in a few places - take pics :).

What network is the phone on? I know O2 has dropped the ball with data connections a few times in the last 6 months.

Where then? The girl from Orange knew less than nothing.

Good idea, evidence if they don't want to replace it. My worry is he would want to get a Galaxy S instead which I'm trying to talk him out of.
Pretty sure it is 02, but it's not just data connections.

  • Where then? The girl from Orange knew less than nothing.

    Expansys, Superetrader, etc.

  • The Galaxy S was released Jun 2010.
The HTC DHD was released Oct 2010.
    "almost a year"?

I've used both phones too and the Galaxy is total rubbish. It's almost unusable in some situations thanks to the now famous Samsung "lag" problem. It might be smooth if it has been rooted and had the lag fix installed. As you can see in the benchmark video, stock they are rubbish. It's not even graphics specifics that let them down, the lag problem ruins the whole user experience. DHD suffers no such problem.

What are you talking about not producing a "different handset"?
Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD, Incredible S are all different, operate differently, hit different price points have different screen sizes, etc. You are complaining because they are calling different products similar names? Are you seriously telling me that's your gripe? You know Porsche have lots of 911 versions right... ?

Anyway, if you want an Android handset HTC are still far superior to Samsung.

No gripe with the names, just get a little annoyed with the way they markety them as completely diff handsets... samasung did the same with galaxy s they had about 4-5 of the same phone with diff names for diff markets but they all were labelled as from the galaxy family so everyone knoew it was same hardware pretty much except for screen and keyboard changes...

I had about 6 HTC handsets before the HD2 all of which were incredible... i think that they have become a little complacent or rather resting on their achievments of the past...

you cant seriously tell me that htc 2011 line up is better than samsung/motorola/lg?

All of the flagship handsets from the others are more advanced in hardware than the htc ones unless htc have a handset thats not announced yet?

either way its all good competition for android, the OS is awesome and its great that there are loads of manufactureres to choose from..

    Anyoine getting the moto Xoom?

Dixos have pre order for 499... use the code hardware10 and get 10% off 450 is pretty special for that tablet...

  • I don't see how you can say 'screen and keyboard changes' don't make a new phone. Qwert vs. soft keyboard, 3.7", 4" and 4.3" screen options. Are you annoyed because they are using the same chipsets? They're not even doing that in a lot of cases. You can't expect them to develop and introduce new internals for every phone. It's like car makers creating a new engine for a sedan and wagon version of the same car. It doesn't make any sense.
If you're talkign about CDMA vs. GSM well that's the nature of the beast. They call them different things in different markets because they have to. There's no point buying a GSM phone if you are going to be roaming around the USA is there?

Complacent? How? Look at the Hero -> Desire -> Desire HD. Each year they've reduced cpu die sizes, increased GPU performance, added Sense UI features.

I have no idea about 2011 lineup. I don't really look until they're very close to actually being available anyway. Which 'flagship' handsets are you talking about?
It'd be highly unlikely for me to buy Moto or LG and Samsung would have to be frickin' good before I considered them again.

4.5" screen is too big and all the other specs are basically on par with what HTC are doing now anyway.
