Replacing the OS with froyo is pretty easy. I did it. Didn't take long.
http://android.modaco.com/category/453/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/Instructions are on there somewhere.
Obviously I take no responsibility if you brick your phone. -

Instead of rushing to upgrade my Desire to the Desire HD, I'm going to watch what develops from these soon-to-appear phones - the LG Star, Motorola Olympus and the unnamed Acer. Sony Ericsson has the** Z1/PSP phone** rumoured and the more appealing (to me) X12 Anzu, but their lack of updates could be a deal-breaker. Loads to choose from in the new year.
And here is why I really wanted to wait.
Full preview article on the LG Star.
Check out the benchmark scores. The NEOCORE score for the LG Star is 67.0 FPS (its at the end of the video clip);
compare that with these scores below: -

Really good news for people looking for a good tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab has reached an all new low price of £419.99 at HMV.
This makes it really a good deal, compared to the up to £900 it was originally priced at.
Also good, is that there are plans to upgrade the OS to Gingerbread (2.3), and maybe Honeycomb (3.0) later also.

Right so can anyone suggest a better alternative to the sms interface that's on the desire?
Starting to do my nut in cos I'll be halfway through typing a text and it'll jump to the top of all conversation meaning I have to scrawl all the way back down to complete and send the text.
Well annoying when there's 100+ in the history, only gonna get worse.

sms popup - Handcent does the same thing, and is my preferred sms'ing app.
I took lileth's recommendation on handcent and love it.
Thanks lileth x
ditto handcent, cheers!
I love the handcent :)

I finally found a workaround for hands down the most annoying fault with my nexus one.
In the end it was annoyingly simple.
The issue was that when in navigation mode the touchscreen stopped working- even when you exited navigation.
So for example you navigate somewhere then need to make a phone call or check an email - only possible after power cycling the phone.
Not so handy.
I discovered by accident that simply turning off the display then turning it back on again brings the touchscreen back.
This is a massive step forward, although you are still tucked if you are using an app that disables turning the screen on or off.
Still, a step forward.

I am contemplating buying the Nexus S. Anyone wanna buy my Nexus 1 with dock and spare battery? It's in great condition, bought direct from Google (so unlocked and without any crappy 3rd party software) and running 2.2. AND it has an awesome quote from scarface on the back!
PM if interested. £300 seems like a fair price, going on some ebay research.

Was having a play with a colleague's Dell Streak last night... It's almost the size of a fucking tablet, looked ridiculous when he put it up to his ear... Still awesome tho'...

Probably in proportion with yours, though. May be worth a thought.

Now that the Dell Streak has Froyo 2.2, here are the new benchmarks. They're pretty impressive.

Anyone play wordfeud?
Nope. Still on 2.1
Using LuncherPro though which is a much smoother/easier user interface.
