Personally, I don't see any meaningful support coming from LG, so I'd buy from someone more recognised, like HTC

Normal HTC Desire runs Desire HD ROM. Its not the finished article though; still a work in progress.

The track ball on my Nexus 1 has stopped working- is there a straightforward way of backing the handset up before asking for a replacement?

I think someone spoke of an app that did this. Make sure you sync all your contacts, emails and cal with gmail though.

This dude is the dogs bollocks, I believe Hippy is running his Desire Rom. Seeing this I'm sorely tempted to grab one myself!
Yeah, I'm a paid up member of the Modaco clan. I really rate his work.
Paul@Modaco and the Cyanogen lot do good things. -

its gets worse if you look at the standby battery time
Orange 9 days
Samsung 24 days
Both have simlar sized OLED screens, I wonder it just a really cheap battery that could be upgraded.24 day standby? I call bullshit. I don't think I even got 9 days out of my old Nokia.. with none of the bells and whistles of modern smartphones. Come on battery makers!

I told you to get the Desire (again).
There's Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro. If it's rooted Ti Backup will backup everything, if not you probably won't get your apps reinstalled and will have to install them again (the paid for ones will already be paid for).

Titanium Backup

http://www.rerware.com/Android/I used My Backup Pro before I had root/custom rom and then use Ti Backup afterwards since it does more.

I popped into the Vodafone shop. The chap had a quick play with my phone then agreed that the track ball was knackered.
He asked if I had a spare phone to use for a couple of weeks as they would have to send mine off to get repaired.
I've been with Orange and O2 before this and they'd both just replace the handset- slightly flabbergasted that Vodafone cheerfully said I'd be without the handset for two weeks.
In a nod to how well trained their shop staff are the chap in the shop then tried to sell me insurance so I would not have to wait next time.
In short Vodafone have been nothing but one dissapointment after another, if I could cancel my contract I would do so

Ordered the San Fransisco from orange it comes tomorrow
£80 all in - including £10 topup voucher - awesome.

Dammit, is there any customer rights org that has advice on this? Given it's soon after purchase are they not obliged to provide a replacement functioning device?
-
• #2914
I don't know is the short answer. I will have to do some Googling when not at work.
I really wish I had stayed on O2 Simplicity now- and I never thought I would say that!

Dammit - I'm fairly up to speed on UK consumer law. How long have you had it?

Couple of months I would have said

Useless fact: I had my wifi and gps off on friday and the phone lasted me about 13-15hours. (It was almost dead when I charged it that night)

Got an update to 2.2.1 overnight. Anyone else? Doesn't seem like much has changed UI-wise, but I can't find any release notes online. It seems to have broken Swype too, which is annoying.

No update for mine. Boo.
I would avoid LG phones like the plague.
My mate works for LG and he had to hand back the LG work mobile they gave him as it was so frustrating to use...
