If it's Samsung you can enable "palm swipe to capture". Slide your palm across the screen to take one. I use it sometimes, kinda handy

Ha, sorry!

Yes I did this as I didn't seem to have the 3-finger swipe option. thanks all!

This on pixels. Assumed it was a standard android feature

Anyone ever have the issue where they can't get their android phone connected to WiFi? Happened twice in the last week with my new pixel. Both BT WiFi routers at 2 different houses. Been googling it but nothing has fixed it yet
-
• #22784
Not really - only when the password is wrong or the wifi has gone down. Do other devices connect to it in the same area? You could try an SSID scanner to measure signal strength and check what band it's running on and then google your model of phone to see if people are having issues with that particular band. But most phones should be pretty much fine with anything - it's usualy devices like HRMs and turbos and stuff that are picky about wifi bands.
You haven't just turned off wifi or something silly? Have you tried connecting to any other wifi? Can you hotspot?

Thanks. Works on my home WiFi. Connected my laptop to it and that was fine, both houses, just my phone

Could they have something like MAC address restrictions on their routers? I'm not sure if there's anything special with BT routers - I tend not to use other people's wifi.

Software update on my phone cracked it!

Is Android 14 update safe on a Pixel6a yet?
Upthread there are comments on A14 leaving some Pixels less than fully functional. -
• #22789
My 6a has been better since I updated it. A13 gave it serious lags in swiping left or right, with it often just not removing stuff and notifications just bouncing back on screen. Now it seems fine. I have no idea whether or not the update fixed it or whether the phone just needed a big old reset, though.
As for the new functionality, I've no idea what it is and therefore haven't used it, but I definitely haven't had any issues arise as a result of the update.

Oops, I installed that the other day. I've not noticed any issues yet. What was the issue reported?
-

Have you got multiple profiles? That was the root cause. Believe it's all good now though.
@hippy if you had multiple profiles set up and did the Android 14 update it meant the main profile lost access to storage. Some phones also got stuck in some sort of reboot loop. I had the first issue for about a week before Google did a custom release to sort it.
-
• #22792
Ah yes, I remember that. No multiple profiles for me and I'm pretty sure we killed off my partner's work profile before she got the 6a too.

Believe it's all good now though
It has been fixed in the November OTA update, but this doesn't fix bootlooping phones, because they are repeatedly rebooting. LOL.
There's a 'specialized solution via Pixel Repair Tool to recover partial data' which sounds ominous.
The problem was that when Android 14 installs itself it also upgrades the firmware, so once a phone is on 14, there's no going back.
It's particularly ironic that this bug badly affected the Pixel 6, which has already been plagued with issues. I'm on my third phone - the second replacement phone I've had Google. The first one had the network/GSM/bluetooth issue and the second had the crashing camera issue. Both hardware problems. This one seems to be all good but the Pixel 6 is cursed.
On the plus side Google extended my warranty and instead of having a phone which is just over two years old I have a phone that's effectively two weeks old with corresponding battery health.

My 6a updated last night and it has been running fine today (so far)

^ Thanks to all contributors.
I'll let this 6a go to A14. -

I think I've been on Android 14 for a month or so on Pixel 6. Didn't really notice except the lockscreen is slightly different.

Really happy with my Pixel 8. Camera is better than the 5, battery life is great, etc. Would recommend.

I've got a weird one: since upgrading to 14, when I'm on the lockscreen, and it's charging rapidly, the screen becomes weirdly less responsive. Really got to fling notifications off the side of the screen with a lot of gusto if you want to dismiss them.

I've got that issue intermittently too. Really fucking annoying. Happened more with A13 than it does now, but still.

This Pixel 6a did seem to take a long time to install Android 14, more than an hour.
What differences should I be noticing?
Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and "screenshot" will appear bottom left.
