  • Anyone tried this? http://lifehacker.com/5599116/how-to-turn-your-android-phone-into-a-fully+automated-superphone?skyline=true&s=i

That looks amazing, I will be trying it out soon, for sure.

  • I think I just got fucked over with Vodafone and their mobile data. I've manged to use 444mb or something, apparently and its supposed to be included in my contract and it isnt.

    /raggggggggggggge.

I need to give them a call

My monthly bill is supposed to be 35 it was fucking 78.

    Urgh.

This was why I didn't go with Vodafone- there were lots of people saying that the limit would not be enforced in practice, but nobody would go on the record to say as much.

so I canceled my contract within 14 days, and then got pinged for ~£450 cancellation fee, which took about 4 months to get back from them.

    Fun times!

If you can provide evidence that you should not have been charged, I would highly recommend
    http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm
After 4 months of dicking around, they paid withing 24 hours of a claim being made.

Good luck, and give 'em hell!

It's a great app - I configured the quiet when face down and alarm as per the guide, and works a treat! Now trying to do airplane mode overnight with wake up for syncs and SMS every 30 mins or so

  • ....just got fucked over with Vodafone.... I've manged to use 444mb ........My monthly bill is supposed to be 35 it was fucking 78.

Not even half a GB......and its NOT inclusive?! Jesus, thats enough to make people run away from Vodafone.
Thats really poor. Hope you get that sorted.

500 MB which is the standard amount is UP + DOWN if you look at small print. So its probably not breaking their contract. Like I said, a sneaky fucking bunch of cnuts!

  • Im getting rid of my dell streak....

Its locked to o2 so i cant use my orange sim.. bought it thinking it would get unlocked quickly but cant wait any longer... is it appropriate to put up for sale here?

Also i need a replacement... i like android... so either galaxy s or desire... missus has a desire and its pretty sweet mainly due to extensive widgets... desire seems to have better hardware specs... but main think for me is how well they are supported by developers in the community etc...

    anyone?

  • desire will have better support because its older, and because its HTC which means there is a huge community and its fairly easy to hack. And it should be cheaper.

  • Yeah i thought so, i remember hippy saying that samsung were shit with after market support too ie getting updates out... is that true?

Which is most future proof? ie will people be able to get latest android versions on to both devices?

  • erm....

i put my pghone on ebay about 5 mins ago and its sold..... think i may have under priced it.... gutted.

Not trying to be funny -
Why don't you look at each, and decide which you would be more happy with now, rather than trying to second guess 6 - 9 - 12 months down the line. Otherwise you'll probably be unsatisfied and want to swap after 3 months

As far as I know, only the N1 is guaranteed at this moment to support Android 3.0. More likely than not, the Desire will have unofficial 3.0 ROMs, if nothing else.

    Yeah, cheers. Thanks for that.

    ;)

  • I like to flash my handsets when i havwe them so i would normally only buy a handset that i knew had the backing of major developers on xda etc... not sure how much support the samsung has in this respect...

  • Im getting rid of my dell streak....

Both the Galaxy S and the Desire will definitely get the Froyo 2.2 update, with both rolling out now actually. Neither will definitely get the 3.0 update.
They might, but its not been announced, so should not be expected as guaranteed.

For like against like, I'd plump for the Galaxy S over the Desire, simply for its far superior graphical performance.

  • GA2g i am guessing you have one? is it as special as the reviews say? ave you had any basic problems with it like reception/wifi/bluetooth.... and can it do anythignt hat the desire cant?

  • I have the Desire. I will upgrade to the Galaxy S, or the Motorola X Droid, whichever is better at the time.

  • Anyone else got the cycle hire app? I just got it working today and its really good.

  • Good news. It appears that France will be getting the Motorola Droid X and Droid 2 by Christmas.
If thats the truth, then the rest of Europe will also.

    *chomping at the bit*

  • I'd get the Desire over the Galaxy S for reasons I've already outlined in this thread.

  • 2.2 download just started on my Desire, whoop!

I thought I'd see if this kickstarted it so I just turned my phone on and off and soon after..

Would you like to install an update? 2.09.405.8 (90mb)

Woo! 2.2 Another reason to buy your mobile phone sim-free/unlocked.

  • I am still waiting for the 'wow' moment tbh..

Last night after updating I managed to spill a glass of water over my phone, still seems to be working though which in itself is quite exciting.

    I has hate.

  • For me the difference between 2.1 and 2.2 was huge- from business related stuff (email/contacts/calendar integration with exchange) to the speed of the browser.

Put it this way- it changed the phone from being pretty annoying to fairly enjoyable, although it's inability to place a fucking phone call is a little wearing.

Hey ho, maybe the next software revision will enable it to be used as a phone.

  • So the Nexus One is an iPhone is disguise? Does Velocio have similar trouble with his?

    My Desire rocks.

2.2 changes aren't immediately obvious but there's some built in stuff that means I can remove 3rd party apps. The browser does appear to be quicker. Sense has some new apps. Wifi tethering and voice stuff have been added.

  • The Desire look pretty good, anyone who go to South have one?
