That looks a good phone -- thanks. A bit over budget, especially as he has a habit of cracking phone screens. Went for a Samsung s10+ refurbished (second hand) for £213 in the end.

Kind of pissed off that my Pixel 4a seems to have no way of simply recording audio line in even with all kinds of aux to TRRS adapters/ UCSB-C to audio connectors deployed. Samsungs seem to be able to do this no problem.
My work laptop is nailed down so I can't install anything on it, so I seem to be faced with buying a laptop (I thought I was free from them) or some hardware just to record a DJ mix to MP3?

Something like this should do be fine for your work laptop
https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portableI know that for USB headphones on my android phone I have to go into settings somewhere and enable USB on the go manually (and I have to do this every time and I don't receive a prompt to do it). Have you checked if this is enabled?

Also just now found a comment that says Google Assistant can mess with mic/audio as it hogs the connection whilst waiting for instructions.

Redmi Note 10 Pro. Best budget android and awesome camera.

Ta for the Audacity tip, I’m going to try a Behringer USB audio interface with it

My Google Pixel 4a has stopped working after a fairly innocuous (and alarmingly routine) drop. About waist high, flat on to the floor. It's in a case so there's no visible damage but an icon of a question mark in a battery is the only thing it'll display. A quick google tells me this means there's probably an issue with the connection to the battery.
Has anyone got any tips on how to fix this or failing that, suggestions of a decent repair place somewhere in south east London? I'm near Crystal Palace. -

Anyone know how to persuade android into realising there's sufficient storage? Ta.
-
• #21735
there's sufficient storage
I expect there's some lower limit to free storage beyond which you start having problems even running anything. If you used 1.2GB of that free 1.6GB, you'd have 5% free, which means no space for temp files. It's not Android being too stupid to do arithmetic, it's Android protecting you from yourself 🙂
Obviously my main recommendation would be not to use Zwift, but if you must then you probably have to do what it says and delete something else, or get a new device.

Android is wise.
Obviously my main recommendation would be not to use Zwift, but if you must then you probably have to do what it says and delete something else, or get a new device.
It's a pi400 hack to run zwift on omni. I've managed to fix it meanwhile by uninstall & reinstall zwift. There's no other apps of any size to uninstall, only the aurora store which is essential for managing updates to zwift.

P.s. the above defo freed up storage, suggesting update isn't as good as reinstall long-term.

People with the Pixel 6 - how are you getting on with it? At least according to the media there seem to have been a lot of issues, particularly with the fingerprint sensor which might be more than software?
The battery is really dying in my 2 XL and I could have it replaced but it's feeling pretty old now.
I don't really want to spend as much as the 6 but I want a new Pixel and pretty much everything else is out of stock - and prices are mad for older/used Pixel phones. Covid chip crisis I guess.
I figured the 4a 5G would probably be the best option for me and have found one from a reputable seller for RRP (£499), but while it's got a rear fingerprint sensor (which I'd much prefer) Google have stopped making it and it's only guaranteed to get updates until November '23.

I really like mine, the fingerprint reader is a lot better since they updated it. It's not as quick as others I've had but not a deal breaker.
-

I like mine, battery is great, everything is good or great fingerprint sensor is a bit shit but, only updated it yesterday so will see if it improves, my hands are basically constantly dirty though so probably get it worse than most.

I really like my (the?) 6 too. Screen and battery both great, though it's noticeably slower than the iPhone SE I had before. Fingerprint reader sucks, though I did install the January update earlier so hopefully that improve things.

Had a 6 Pro since launch; I have zero issues with the finger print scanner since increasing screen sensitivity, adding multiple (of the same) finger prints and the updates. Not sure which one 'fixed' it, but it's snappy now!
-
• #21743
I've done all those things and it's certainly not snappy, works more often than not now, and it was the other way round to start with, still need to use another method a couple of times a day but my fingers are filth.

Ah yes, it is hampered by dirt. I struggle after doing anything bike related anything that fills those crevices. But otherwise my office working hands work first time every time.
Either way though, when I compare it to faceID and mask wearing... I'll take this any day. Do miss the back of phone one from my 4/5 though, it just worked. That and the notification swipe down.

I love mine.
However the Pixel 5 was a better size, the 6 feels a fraction too large.
My only complaint is mild... the fingerprint reader isn't instant and quick, but the one on the back of the Pixel 5 was.
However the upside... everything else is phenomenal. The camera, the phone itself, the AI stuff (the difference with their chip is noticeable).
So it is worth it. Do it.

I just got a 6 today
coming from the 3 I really don't like how massive it is. guess I'll have to get used to it.
-
• #21747
I went 3 to 6 as well, you get used to it pretty quickly.

This is the most complete and concise pixel 6 review I've read. This 100%....

Just rage quit my Moto G7 Play.
What next?
Needs to be reasonably straightforward to unlock the bootloader, have a google free ROM available somewhere (so LineageOS, really), and have a fingerprint reader
Performance / camera / bells & whistles - meh, not so fussed. I'll happily take 2020 models.

^ ended up going for a Galaxy S10 - supported by LineageOS and LineageOS for microG
I have a OnePlus Nord 2, and am loving the 2 day battery and the camera is a noted improvement over my old Moto G7 plus.
(nord 2 is £400 iirc, but there are phones in the range at lower price points that might be worth considering)
