My Moto G6 keeps freezing and battery life isn't great so I'm looking at either the Moto G9 Power at £159 or the best budget mobile on the market, some say, the Xiaomi Redmi 9T 4GB 128GB which if you look around you can get for less. Great cemera, awesome battery life, just a bit bigger than I'm used to, maybe too big for jeans pockets.

Pixel 4a now on offer in that UK, at £279

Yeah thanks, same here in Spain at 339 eur.
I don't know if I should do that or pixel 5. I feel if I got 4 id just get it as stopgap. Thus might at well spend more for 5 now. Or wait.

4 isn't waterproof is it? If you're just stop-gapping buy something cheaper.

I'm a happy 3a user and don't feel the need to upgrade. Have mine an Otterbox case with alpha glass and it's survived a few years in my back pocket. Though nothing on what you might put one through.
Unless they do something substantive with the 6, like adding more lenses, I'll continue to stick with the 3a until it either dies or I want to use 5g.

I'm holding out for a P6, but reckon I'll grab a 5 when they inevitably get discounted.
-
• #21459
Yeah fair assessment from both. Sort of tempted to get 5 now. As I need aphone I can trust. As the inevitable 50 quid discount is less important that reliable phone now. It also seems the 6 will ve positioned higher in the market and 5 might not reduce in price.

I bought a 4a a few months ago at around £300. Really happy with it but far from a power user. Seems quite robust and haven't bothered with a case. Battery life better than expected. Perfect size for me as it fits in pockets. Glad I didn't bother with the 5.

The battery on the 5/4a 5g is significantly bigger (by ⅓) than the 4a which is probably a factor for you. Reckon I could get 2 days or maybe more out of my 5 if I didn't use it at all and just had it there for emergencies.

Wanted: cheap second hand phone with good battery life, solely to be used for playing mp3s through built-in speaker
I want to gift somebody a phone they can use to play music.
They want a little "radio" that they carry around in their pocket.
I use iPhones myself but they are a bit older and not very tech-savvy so I thought android would be better, to have the ability to just copy music from the desktop via usb, without syncing / libraries, etc.Ideally:
- with good battery life (even when already a bit older..)
- with good built-in speaker (it will not be used with headphones)
- readily available for cheap on the used market
- all other functions (apart from playing music) are not relevant
Thank you in advance for some recommendations!
- with good battery life (even when already a bit older..)

What about an mp3 player? Sandisk used to be good a few years back.
-
• #21464
You mean an mp3 player with a built-in speaker? I wasn't even aware things like that existed..
..also I guess I was somewhat set on using an old phone for this as, while it's not needed to make calls / use the internet etc. they could also have a couple useful apps on there like a tea-timer etc.
Whatever kind of device it is - sound quality should be somewhat decent at low volumes.

Guess you would have to attach a small speaker for an mp3 player. Just thought it might be the simplest solution.

There's loads of them. No idea what's any good though
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08JQF6GY5/Or lots of speakers have built in MP3 players but crap interfaces.

Today should be new phone day. OnePlus 5T has done well for the last 4 years.
Considered getting a OnePlus 9 but went for Pixel 5, 0% finance for 2 years seems like a good offer although I'm hoping this Klarna thing doesn't turn out to be some kind of scan where they end up finding a reason to charge you silly interest.

is there a "cheap" 5g handset that is worth having?
Currently using a Moto G7 plus, looking at upgrading this year.
Was considering the next Pixel phone, but have talked myself down from a £700 phone. -

Anyone looking to shift a pixel 4a?
-
• #21470
Kinda on the same boat here. I've been on a Huawei P20 Pro for just over three years now, was waiting on the Pixel 6 but it's more than I want to piss away on a phone.
OnePlus Nord 2 perhaps? -
• #21471
I'm hoping pixel 5 drops a little and will get one.

Anybody selling a phone? Had a lovely S9 off @Stonehedge last year that I destroyed last week

Ah crap, sorry to hear it didn't last!

Spent thousands on anodised bike parts since then, but not 3.99 on a case. Replacement screens seem to be v expensive on this model

^ straight to golf club for me
I was tossing up pixel 5/4a and really wanted one but didn't wanna with the 6 being out in Oct (probably).
Got a really good deal on a trade in, I traded in my mum's nearly 10 yo iPhone, on an s20fe and although first foray from vanilla android ina long time. Can't be happier. Might be worth seeing if Samsung still have any offers on this.
