  • Actually it's CGI stylised bullshit that makes me retch

I genuinely don't know what I'm looking at.

The top picture seems to have more detail to me. What is wrong with it?

  • It probably works ok for phone masts but people look a bit odd:

  • Have you switched it to pro mode? That disables the scene recognition stuff etc. Makes a big difference on my p10 pro.

  • I got a canon selphy cp1300 printer for Xmas.

Couldn’t get the canon android app to find the printer. The instructions also said mopria app could be used.

Got that all set up but when I clicked print a message came up saying the photo might pass through several servers.

I thought the printer was a direct print so why is it sending it off to other servers? Doesn’t sound secure at all.

  • Finally did some research, and I'm asking for £350 for an unlocked, used p20 Pro 128gb.

Screen is mint, but phone has small chip in bottom left corner. It's about 2 months old, comes with original box, charger, headphone adapter, and 2 cases.

Read via Google Translate, but the gist of it is that any app built with the Facebook SDK will have code to report that data back to Facebook. >insert:fryshocked.gif

Makes me glad I've mostly moved to web apps on my phone

  • Actively hunting for a new phone for Mrs H.

    Wish list:

    • As cheap as possible
    • >16GB storage + expansion
    • medium to large size
    • half decent camera.
    • no Sonys, no Samsungs.

    Any suggestions?

It's currently between athe Moto G6 Play at the budget end and the Huawei Honor 8X at the top.

Also has anyone used these guys https://www.eglobalcentraluk.com/huawei-honor-8x-4gb-128gb-dual-sim-blue.html?utm_source=tradedoubler&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=Tradedoubler_Sale&tduid=ac617b63bd492dfab7a2485c4700cda0#/product/27299

; bit unsure about some of the deals on the Huawei s

Being able to buy the Moto G from John Lewis is quite appealing.

  • With my tired Galaxy S6 Edge starting to get slow, I wanted to give Nokia a try with their android phones, so I've just bought an ex-demo Nokia 8 off the 'Bay for £121.48 inc delivery. It arrived the next day by DPD. Aluminium billet unibody phone with gorgeous screen, dual sim, micro SD card slot, clean version of Android, Zeiss optics 13MP dual camera.

So far, it's really impressing me, but hey new phones do that. I'll report back in a few weeks when the novelty has worn off, and let you know how I'm getting on.

  • I've used eglobal quite a few times. Never had an issue.

In fact, it's probably the first place I look now when needing another handset.

  • Which apps? I've just deleted Facebook... Tired of their bullshit. (and everyone else's too).

  • Kayak was the one they mentioned, but I'd guess any that give you the option to log in with Facebook - unclear if that is avoided if you don't use that option or not

  • I am in the market for a new phone. Any suggestions welcome.

£300 ish, expandable mem slot, not Huawei. Big ram.

Annoying that they make such affordable and great phones but fuck the security risk.

I'm on an. LG G5 which was quite impressive in its day.

    Oneplus 5 8g 128gb looks good. Or 6?

Hate the Samsung edge phones... Lost 2 cause of that stupid curved edge. Are the normal ones curved? S8 good?

    What are my options?

  • Not sure OnePlus are going to be any better for data security than Huawei honestly

    https://m.androidcentral.com/oneplus-buck-stops-here

If you are concerned, find one that you can reliably root and instal a stock Google ROM onto via XDA

  • My S6 Edge was given to me by my brother in-law. You're right about the curved edge ... it's just a pointless gimmick. Also, I get really tired of all of Samsungs crappy extra apps running in the background constantly on their phones. This is one of the reasons why after about 20 years I wanted to try Nokia again, now that they do Android.

  • If I understood your nonsensical spouting... Sure. I'm not that way inclined. I'm still trying to work out where my pcs on button is. I keep buying it flowers, dinner and occasional wine without success.

  • I'm careful with my phones. Never broken a phone or cracked a screen and been years since accidently dropping one in a toilet, but that phone, the slightest bump and the screen goes.

  • Cheers. Do you need to worry about customs?

Just need to work out which frequencies I need to make sure I don't end up with an unusable phone.

  • So impressed with how easy it is to restore your phone (S8) these days.

Last thing last night was playing around with PIN/Password/Pattern settings and accidentally set and forgot a new PIN(I haven't had a drink in months..). Quickly downloaded recent photos, factory reset the phone, logged in with GMail and Samsung accounts. When I woke up in the morning everything except the secure folder (extra 5 minutes logging into services) was back to normal.

Been with Samsung from S4 (before HTC/Nokia) and upgraded every 2 models but will stick with the S8 until it dies and/or Brexit resolves.

  • I haven't had any difficulty with customs. I've purchased two Moto GS, an Xaomi and a One Plus 5T, all without incident (keeping the family supplied with handsets...)

I have the OnePlus myself. Security concerns aside (which I've not really looked into tbh), it's a really nice phone for the price.

  • I keep coming back to the Huawei Honor 10... How bad am I going back on myself? Or am I making a mistake?

  • As much as I'd like a OnePlus, its a bit too much money at the moment. Even more so if I'm buying two phones.

I'm planning on getting max's pixel 2 for me and probably the Honor 8x for my other half... although wondering if I live with my old moto g and just give Mrs H the Pixel.

Also be curious as to folks thoughts as to which would be a) the better phone, and b) the better camera out of the Pixel 2 and Honor 8x?

  • Thanks @cmburns. How you like the Pixel 3 after a few week's with it?

    Same question to @Sumo

  • Pixel absolutely batters the 8X in terms of camera; almost certainly a better phone overall although if you want a bigger screen the 8X obviously wins on that and there's nothing the Pixel can do to compete. UI on the Pixel will be closer to the Moto and Huawei's is very busy in comparison.
