  • I am looking for a dual sim phone for very occasional use, will not be used for anything other than calls and browsing. Not concerned about cameras, NFC etc etc.

    Any recommendations?

  • I know right. What were they thinking!

  • Any recommendations?

I recommend gsmarena. Assuming you don't want to spend much, they list 14 dual SIM phones running 8.0 or above that you might get for about £100 or less. If it were me, I'd be picking between the Nokias depending on whether I wanted compact or mid-size

  • Getting a weird thing happening with the Camera on my Nokia 6. It takes photos but then when you go to review them in the file, it won't show the image properly and says it's processing. It stays like this until I restart the phone. Is this likely to be an OS problem or a phone problem?

  • Xiaomi Redmi 5A

Got one for my brother in law. £75. Incredible spec for the price.

Screen isn't incredible but will be fine for general use.

Of course there are cheaper non-smart phone options but I don't know what they are.

  • Slight disappointment with my Pocophone. Can't get it to do the fast charge. Not a problem on my wife's MiA2 but won't work on mine. Tempted to send it back but its such a ball ache posting the phone to china over a fairly small fault (with no guarantee the next one won't do it).

Looked online and tried the 'fix' (factory reset without apps). Will try on a different plug next weekend as don't have access to another at present.

    Any ideas?

Also can't get used to the fingerprint being round the back. On the front makes much more sense to me being as my phone spends most time on my desk.

  • I also considered the Pocophone. I'm used to the finger print reader on the back and quite like it.

How good is the face-unlock on the OnePlus 6T and how good is the in-screen fingerprint sensor? @Bainbridge @villa-ru

  • Face unlock works very well - I rarely have to resort to the finger print reader, though it works pretty well when I do. Maybe not as quick as a button reader.

One thing I downloaded was the G-cam APK which basically rips the camera software from the Pixel and uses it with the OnePlus hardware. Made a massive difference to the quality of the pictures.

  • Not using face unlock but the fingerprint is fine. Tad slower than the physical one on 5x, but very accurate. With both forefingers and thumbs set up it's always easy to access.

  • I'm tempted to sell my old iPhone 6s and my new p20 Pro for a one plus

  • old iPhone 6s

May be interested depending on how shagged the battery is?

Edit: and maybe the P20 too!

  • Battery is good, the 6s has a crack in the screen but it's across the top of the screen where it's not actually part of the display. I used it like that for over 12 months so not really a problem, but I'll post a pic.

The p20 Pro is not old, but I dropped it the first day I got it and it's got a chip in the bottom corner. Barely noticeable, especially since it needs a case at all times due to how slippery it is, which covers the chip.

  • Any info on £££?

  • Tentatively hunting for a new phone for Mrs H.

    Wish list:

    • As cheap as possible
    • >16GB storage + expansion
    • medium to large size
    • ideally with a half decent camera. I've got a Moto X Pure which takes fairly nice photos.
    • no Sonys, no Samsungs.

Any suggestions? Huawei P Smart looks decent for the price, then at the top end of the budget the Huawei Honor 8X.

Re that link to download the Pixel camera software, are there any limitations on what phone you can put it on?

  • @hugo7 Single SIM Moto g6 is currently £129 on Amazon. Probably hard to beat for the money.

  • Yeah I was looking that on JL. It's my mid-way option. I do like Motorola and it should update to 9.0 without any funny unapproved installs.

I guess it's whether 50GBP is worth it for the camera:

  • Maybe the Moto One is worth the extra £70? I've just done the research on the mid-range phones and ended up splashing out a bit more for a Pocophone.

  • Cheers.

Think the camera is going to be what sways it and trustedreviews says the 8X camera is better, so if I spend the extra, I'm more inclined to go that route.

  • If anyone is interested, I have a black pixel 2 for sale with case and charger. It's about a month old. £300

  • Can I dibs for my wife?

  • Any recommendations for a budget tablet? I've been doing Mathletics & Bug Club with the kid on my phone, but it's a bit small for her.

  • Yep. Silly cheap. Especially right now.
