  • I was going to ask if you ever have sound come out of the right side spearker, but apparently it's not really a speaker.

  • Huh. Weird. Never noticed tbh but I use headphones usually and if I don't then I'm cupping the speaker in my hand to reflect audio up at me. Don't have ringer volume on ever, just vibrate.

  • Had a quick go of the oneplus 5 in my local 02 yesterday and was pretty impressed. It's a small thing but one of my favourite features on the nexus 6p is the DOuble Tap power button to open the camera, was glad to see the one plus does the same.....It has made it back on to my list of maybe-phones (never ending because I can't make up my mind)

  • Thats an android nougart feature, any phone running it will do it.

  • Nexus 5X has started to shut down randomly - even with 40% battery left - has done it about 5 times in past 48 hours - then goes into boot loop until its been back on charge for a while - had enough, this is after mobo was replaced - have just emailed LG again asking what they can do

  • ^ mine has been buggy as hell and SUUUPPPERRR slow since the most recent OS update.

Also - has anyone else had issues with connecting to bluetooth headphones since updating to 8 (oreo - or whatever it's called)?

  • that doesn't help my decision making, ha!

  • All this 5X vs oreo talk is making me feel lucky. No issues at all with mine so far. Probably jinxed it now!

  • Got a Huawei Mate 9 Pro coming from work. Pretty excited. Although not sure I'll really notice the difference between it and the cheap Chinese phones I've been using.

  • I am really hoping the Pixel 2 is good, but still has a headphone jack. I don't want to have to carry a dongle just for my headphones. Only BT headphones I have are too much for going to the pub in (QC35's)

  • What's the view of Three in terms of network coverage and customer service? I seem to recall a while ago they were not particularly well thought of, but not sure if that's changed.

  • If you don't notice any difference, please tell me which cheap Chinese phone to get next ;)

  • I've had Bluetooth issues since upgrade on my pixel. Connectivity and range has been poor.

  • I'd say reception doesn't seem as good as Vodafone (although there is a chance that this could also be down to phone differences as well) but no major complaints.

  • Ha, I hope I do, but can't imagine it'll be that much faster than my decacore Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which was a 150 quid, or so.

  • Moved to 3 from O2 a couple of years ago and saw a big increase in speed on the mobile data front and slightly patchier reception in the countryside (Devon). Customer service is good. I've rarely spent over my contract allowance despite often using my phone abroad. Overall very good compared to my experiences with O2, GiffGaff, Orange, etc.

  • I was with Three for a year until recently. Customer services were great but I had a few problems with reception, especially inside buildings.

I found it very patchy in Blackheath, Greenwich and in bits of Islington around Liverpool Road.

Roaming service was excellent and I travelled a lot last year but I guess that is because it isn't using the three network.

Switched to EE and have noticed a big improvement.

  • Having issues with my OnePlus 2 for battery life. Figured it was just the battery so installed a new one yesterday. Same problems if not worse. Phone is near dead after an hour of use. Really bloody slow at charging up.

I've had it for a while (over 2 years) but I'd like to keep it until the new year at least. That and I slept on buying a OP5 so the 128g model is out of stock.

    Any ideas why?

I assume most of the cheap temp phones (RedMi etc...) are a false economy (I'd only keep it for a year or so) and a downgrade on the OP2.

  • Exactly the same, I was with 3 for years and moved to EE and the difference was massive in both speed and reliability. 3 are shit if you live and/or work indoors.

  • Some info from @evleaks on Pixel 2.

    https://venturebeat.com/2017/10/02/these-are-the-google-pixel-2-and-pixel-2-xl/

Being an owner of the Nexus 5, and having skipped the first Pixel (not being able to justify it), I'm considering getting a Pixel 2 (as the Nexus 5 has just got slower and slower, so it feels like time to upgrade).

  • Use a zero assumption recovery tool.

Wiping your phone should only remove headers, not actual data. A zero adaption tool might still find the data.

  • 4gb ram, single rear camera.

Plenty of phones have more than 4gb ram and plenty have dual rear cameras. What makes the Pixel 2 better (and more expensive) than those?

Its also got a bezel for those that care about bezel-less

    Quite disappointing

  • The software will be better optimised for the hardware than basically any other android phone, so it should leave a note 8 in the dust.

  • Was this true for the original Pixel? I remember there being a lot of hype but didn't hear much about its real world use (I'm not very up to date though).

  • yeah, they did a bunch of extra work on optimisations. It shows when you handle one.
