Does USB tethering work?
Edit: Obviously not the issue.
I do find that tethering with 3 the connection (phone's data connection) will sometimes pack up after a while and I have to restart to get it going. Not sure if it's a 3 "feature" to stop it being used full-time

Bit academic as I've just powered up my replacement N5x and it's gone into the bootloop of > death... I can't even get into recovery mode, it just goes back to the Google screen loop...
Time to buy an iPhone I reckon...
Srsly, NEVER buy anything from eGlobal...
To be fair to eGlobal I'm not sure this is their fault. The Nexus 5X Reddit is full of people who've had the bootloop of death. They've even returned bootloop of death phones to be given another which also has it. From Google. Does seem like Google possibly haven't addressed the issue.

Nexus 5X bootloop -- I had one that did that.
Can anyone suggest a goodish mid-size Android around the £150 mark?

Something like this, where 'OTG device' actually plugs into your phone. With possible slight variations if your phone/external battery aren't USB Micro B, or your dongle is not USB A.

YeAh that'd do it. Plus a battery pack yeah?

Mah wife just got a Moto G5. 3Gb of RAM with a fairly slim version of Android is hard at to beat for the price. She really likes it.

Yep if you don't already have one!

Just picked up a Wileyfox Swift 2x, not bad for a similar price. Finding a few widgets that either don't appear as a widget, Strava for example or don't work which is most of the weather apps. Small things but even so.
Resolved, turns out that some apps get stored on the SD which means that the widgets don't appear until you move the app back to the internal storage.

They have a website...

No experience of these, and they're a bit more than £150 but here is my current shortlist:
- Lenovo P2
- Wileyfox Swift 2 X
- Moto G5 Plus
These are the more expensive variants of each of the models.
From memory, the Moto G5 (normal) would be the best cheaper variation of the above.
Lenovo has duel sim and good battery life.
- Lenovo P2

Wileyfox Swift 2 X also supports dual sim, so far I'm liking it for the price having come from a Nexus 6p. Still undecided about the camera very hit and miss, with pictures out of focus more often than not. Although I've only had it a few hours.

Cheers. That's good to know.

Yeah, I saw that... My first N5x suffered a catastrophic logic board failure, the bootloop phone was a reconditioned replacement handset that arrived in safe mode... I rebooted and bang, unusable rubbish... I sent them a video of it doing its thing, a courier is picking it up on Monday so the saga continues...

Could do with some input on the following from a specs pov :
Moto G5 plus vs. Lenovo P2
For the moto
- Android 7.0 vs 6.0
- 64GB storage vs 32GB
- image stabilisation
For the Lenovo
- camera resolution (?) 12.6 vs 13.6
- NFC
... There are some other pros/cons but these are the main ones I'm not sure about.
Won't either phone get updated software?
This phone isn't for me, so I'm not sure whether NFC is that useful (I've only just started using it and not well).
The from reviews I get the feeling the moto takes better pics.
Any thoughts?

Just realised three uk's unlimited data is actually only 12gb while abroad. Ffs.
Who actually does unlimited data. Maybe I need an Italian sim.

It seems I got lucky with my 5X. Although the battery life has gone to pot recently.

Just plugged my Oneplus 5 in to charge for the first time in 2.5 days.
It's not a fair test, as I've not used it much over that time, but my old HTC M8 that it replaced used to run out on the commute into work :)

On this - with 3 mobile's free internet in Europe, I haven't ever actually got a data signal. Going to France next week and I'll need data (up to 12gb is fine for me. Is there something I need to do to enable it? On a Nexus 5x running latest android.

I've not been with 3 for a few years, but I think I had to call (or do something on their website) in advance to enable data whilst roaming and also make sure I had data whilst roaming switched on in my phone settings.
