Can anyone recommend an external 1TB hard drive that would be able to run on an Nexus 7. Read that they aren't powerful enough to run anything bigger then 500GB.

£+++
how about a SSD in an external caddy? -

anyone got one of the wiley fox phones - swift is pretty cheap on amazon?
-
• #17030
Nope.

Nah, thought they looked interesting but reviews suggest they're pretty crap rebrandings of cheap Chinese phones. They're not Oneplus One-esque flagship killers.

I read some decent reviews. Only hangup for me is the OS..

I've got a moto G atm but only having 8gb HD is becoming a constant problem - even with music and pictures moved to the SD card

exact same issue, wonder if 16gb internal storage will solve it .. they sell 16gb 3rd gen with dual sim and micro SD in India ..

I had a 16gb nexus 5 before and I never had any issues with that amount of storage

There is also a 'turbo' versions: http://www.flipkart.com/moto-g-turbo/p/itmecc4uhbue7ve6?pid=MOBECC4UZTSGKWWZ&ref=L%3A-2634682648220055717&srno=p_1&query=moto+g&otracker=from-search
I might get one; missus is visiting in Feb.

mrs_com has the Swift and is happy with it as a light user. I have not had much of a go but the camera and screen seem very nice and it is VERY light compared to my Nexus 5

I've got a 16GB Moto X Play and it's generally OK but I've had to spend more time copying apps over to SD, finding space when it's trying to update apps, etc.
When Marshmallow is rolled out you'll be able to use the MicroSD as internal storage effectively (although no-one is sure on the speed impact yet) http://9to5google.com/2015/12/16/android-6-marhsmallow-tip-adopt-microsd-card-internal-storage/
Be careful with foreign phones and check them out here http://www.willmyphonework.net/
That Moto G Turbo for instance won't work on Vodafone 4G over here

I am on EE 4G ..
Anyway any idea when Marshmellow is going to be rolled out on 3rd gen Moto G?
-
• #17040
It's already on the 4G version that I played with in John Lewis and on their website. I checked as I'm probably going to order one next week.

Quite a few of the reviews I read metioned problems with the GPS dropping out and not reconnecting easily.

Resolve caved in today and I bought a nexus 5x.
Moto g is a nice little phone for the price, but I just found myself more and more frustrated with it - slow, the Motorola apps seem to constantly clash with some google/android ones, the camera is awful, 8gb isnt enough and i'm not convinced running apps off an SD card will be very smooth.
etc etc. Will replace the broken screen myself next week and keep it as a spare. -

Will be interested to hear how you get on with it, especially as I'm currently an 8Gb Moto G user and completely agree with you on those failings.

I thought Moto were keeping pretty close to the native Android system? Maybe only some of their phones are doing that?
-
• #17045
Fuck knows. I'm no expert - I just want stuff to work. Was super happy with my n5 for 2 years until I bent it around the shape of my arse in a cab on christmas eve. It just worked.
Case in point - the Moto doesn't seem to be able to decide which camera or photo app it likes or doesn't. No matter what I do with permissions or settings, the Moto camera app overrides everything (as does the gallery one) and then doesn't even work. To top it all the native android apps for both just crash all the time and I am completely unable to move picture storage to the micro SD.
I know everyone will say 'root it' etc.. but I'm not that kind of user. I just want it to bloody work without having to get under the bonnet.

Also - I really liked the fact that on the n5 I got android OS updates straight away and didn't have to wait for the manufacturer to decide to roll it out 6 months later.

No, that's fair enough. If I can get something to work without spending an evening fucking about with it, I'm all over it.
That's why I look for phones that are vanilla android without any shit added to them in the first place, which I thought Moto were doing but maybe there's a specific model to look for?
I was thinking about a hardened one for using on the bike. -
• #17048
I will probably use mine for that once I've replaced the screen. The battery life is excellent and the are relatively waterproof (unless you smash the screen .. like me)

• #17049
I likemine.Ive got Nova so I can group the screens better for me.
I'm banging a 32gb card in it as soon as I get one of those card readers delivered.
