  • Yeah, that and be careful what porn you look at.

  • SMS Backup+ for texts/call logs (so long as you don't mind them being stored on your gmail).

Helium to back up apps (I set it just to download the data so on your new phone you have to download the apps again {it will give you a list of the backed up ones and link to the store, be careful with anything that's not on the Google Store [Adaway for instance] as it won't know where to restore that from} but then it will restore the current position). If you use Whatsapp just copy the message database from the folder on your phone and put it on your new one.

  • Any oneplus users finding their phone's battery barely last a whole day now? I am never a heavy user and my battery struggles to last a whole day. For example, I charged it up before leaving work at 6pm yesterday, probabbly used the phone for a bit of internet in the evening but it had been mostly at standby, woke up this morning, it had barely any juice left... any suggestion?

  • Hey, my new baby's saliva has finally killed my old Motorola Defy mini after a good few years.
What can I get instead for cheaps at short notice? Under £100, I'm on Giff Gaff so unlocked or O2.
Anyone seen any deals before I go into CEX and buy whichever one looks most robust?

  • moto G?

  • looks like I can get a moto E on the cheap - i'm definately not a 'power user' of any kind!

  • do i need a different plan for 4G, or do i just get to access the data quicker?

  • Giff Gaff has separate 4G plans which are a bit more spendy, but still cheap.

  • noice, thanks

  • That was a real issue on KitKat, the latest lollipop release says it has fixed some of the on-wake settings, which seem to have been causing the issue...

  • but doesn't the one plus use their own custom os? the issue with mine is that the battery idea had been fantastic until few weeks ago and nothing has changed...

  • What changed was the version of Google Play services. It seems to be an issue on a lot of custom ROMs (including Cyanogen).

The latest version of Cyanogen (5.02 I think, now available as an OTA update) seems to have improved things.

  • I see... it makes sense now... Thanks for the advice... :-)

  • Lollipop on a nexus 5 is absolutely terrible. Slow as anything, buggy and terrible battery life.
What are the cyanogenmod suggestions? 12 still seems to be nightlies? Am I best with 11 or is 12 OK?

  • I have upgraded to cyanogenmod 12 last night with the hope that the battery life would get back to how it way, and it seems this way, still not as good as it was before though. But now I can't get my email to work.

  • Does CM12 have anything significantly better than 11? I seem to remember I found 11 OK before I went back stock.

  • I am finding it quite confusing, everything looks different, like going from Mac OS X 10.9 to OS X 10.10. If you are a Mac user, you'd know what I mean. Other than this, I don't find it any better.

I am not usually one for updating right away, but I was hoping for a better battery life, hence the update, I wish I hadn't.

  • Cheers, think I'll go with 11 for the moment.

  • Afaik, CM12 has ANT+ support if present in the bt/wifi chip.

My Moto X has a chip which supports ANT+ but the stock OS hasn't got the module.

  • CM12 is good for battery life generally, but if the kernel isn't properly optimised for your device, you won't get much better perf/battery life.
Which is actually surprising on a Nex5, i'd have expected proper kernel support. When I was still using CM12, I would add a good 50% battery by underclocking and undervolting while choosing the right CPU Governor. it takes a lot of tinkering to get it right though.

  • "Updated" to CM11 and it's far snappier. Will have to see on battery life.

    A frustrating update though.

Backed up the app data using helium on my phone, then used nexus toolkit to do a nandroid backup, backup the apps and backup sd card data.

After installing CM11 it turned out that the nexus toolkit app backup did nothing, the sd card data backup only backs up pictures and ringtones and the helium backup had only backed up about 60% of my apps and of those only about 75% of the backups worked. Tried to start again but the nandroid backup didn't work ...

A frustrating evening and I'm now restoring loads of settings by hand.

  • 5.1.1 arrived for the N7 2012 today.

Will it cure the lag that 5.0 introduced? Stay tuned...

  • I wondered exactly the same thing.
