  • In theory it's not too tricky, there are guides out there with step-by-step instructions. In practice it can be fine or you can reach a point where whatever is meant to happen on that step doesn't happen and you're stuck.

For instance I often find it an arse to get the drivers to install properly which means that your computer doesn't recognise the phone and can't connect, etc.

Also, I seem to remember there was an issue with rooting Z3 where some of the camera function became a bit limited as some of the post-processing was due to custom Sony software. Can't remember how serious an issue it was.

  • This. Does my nut in. Especially frustrating when using your phone for navigating on even the most mildly rainy of days!

I've never actually installed a custom os to my phone, but I'll agree with the above, in theory it's not too tricky. Read as many guides as possible (arduous) and find a way to do a full recoverable backup of your phone before you start

  • Sweet cheers guys!

  • Cyanogen is great, although their lollipop builds ain't been going long so are missing a lot of the extra features and polish of the late jellybean ones. Not that hard to install and once it's on you can update it most days if you're into that all on the phone.

  • Anyone got 5.1 ota on the nexus 5 yet?

  • anybody seen a contract deal for a moto x 2nd gen that isn't the white bamboo or black leather one?

  • I rooted my Samsung GT-i9105P, and then installed Android 5.0.2.

Its Nice and all. But now I cant send pic Messages, or download apps. So my phone is somewhat crippled. The phone is pretty battered. Which is why didnt mind fecking With it. Still, would be Nice to get a bit more life out of it.

  • Can't download apps? Were you meant to flash a Gapps package?

  • Yeah. That installs a shit load of apps. But when I boot up the phone it just brings up error Messages.

    'unfortunatly x has stopped working'

I click one away and the NeXT appears. This continues forever, as the phone just keeps trying to open them.

  • Done a factory reset? If it still doesn't work try another ROM.

  • Yeah need to look around for one.

  • Did you use the appropriate gapps bundle for that version of Android?

Can't diagnose anything without log data.

  • Pretty sure I did. It was all in a forum post together.

I may try and roll back to KK or something.

  • Being unable to download apps is probably not installing gapps.
I had a similar problem with processes crashing on an old HTC under CM, best bet is try a full reset, clear all partitions you can (cache and userdata normally) and then try it again.

@sacredhart, cyanogen is stock android with some extra options added on and (more recently) with some of the stock apps replaced (different launcher, different messaging app). As a result, the interface is basically identical to normal Android.

  • But better.

  • Anyone know of an app that will alow me to create routes on a map on my phone, then ride them? Or am I pissing in the wind?

    #cantaffordgarmin

  • Try ridewithgps though I use the app to follow routes only, I do the authoring on a computer via the browser. Works very well. Garmin does work way better in terms of battery life - but for 50/60Km trips should be fine. Store route offline, switch of 3G, dim screen and it should be ok.

  • I just got an invite for Gmail Inbox.

    Is it worth it?

  • Cheers guys. I'll check them out.

  • Got my 2012 N7 updated to 5.1 this morning. Jury is still out if has solved the clusterfuck that 5.0 did to the tablet.

  • Seem I have to pay for the navigation feature, right?

  • Is it worth free? I like inbox fwiw.

  • Anyone got 5.0 update on the original Moto 4G? Its looking like it might be going straight to 5.1 which would be nice I guess. My N7 is just updating to 5.1 now as well

  • I had it running but got rid of it after a few days, found it a bit confusing tbh... Personally prefer the regular GMail app...
