Plenty of identikit android-on-a-hdmi-stick out there, some of them even have stuff documented in the xda forums...

I have my raspberry pi running Xbmc. It's powered from TV USB socket so boots up when TV turned on. Also controlled via TV controller. Down side is you need somewhere to store the videos (powered USB drive works)

Battery life on Moto G is better than the Nexus 4; i get two days of moderate use, would only get one on the 4.
Not really. It seems really nice, perhaps of a plastic feeling to the back case but that's to be expected really. It's also odd how you can remove the back, but the battery is fixed and can't be swapped out.
Still, I think it's a good looking phone and from the little I used it I wouldn't be unhappy to have one as my daily phone.
Thanks. I did have a look at one yesterday and agree about the back but I don't think it'll be an issue.

Is anyone finding that the latest version of Instagram is rinsing their battery?
I've got a Nexus 4 on 4.4.2 and it's just silly. Just looked at it now and 48% of the battery has been used by Instagram on this charge.

Just going to buy the slimport cable. I'm not going to solve this audio visual logistical nightmare between now and Christmas so I'll get an easy stocking filler.

Ah, the old 'is that an android device in my stocking or are you just pleased to see me?' routine... Classy...

You can get a Now TV box for a tenner and sideload Plex on it. Remote viewing is decent when I've used it so back-end can be at your place if you have an always on PC/NAS and decent internet connections.

I don't use this but try a reboot and if that makes no difference revert the update (Settings > Apps > Uninstall or similar) and see if that resolves the issue. If it does, complain to devs.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Just checked this out, seems pretty decent especially for a tenner.
I've got Plex set up at home already, but I've been pretty disappointed with it's remote performance so far, but then that's been due to mobile network issues rather than Plex issues.

Wow, that's quite cool (the plex/now tv thing). I think I will give it a shot.

Tesco is still cheapest for Moto G, yeah? Just missed on one by a few seconds it looks like.
Also, unlocking is easy, yes?

I need to get one for Lori, her HTC Sensation is dying...

yep, unlocking was very easy for me (via the ebay dude)

Buy code. Give seller your IMEI number/Make/Model. Seller sends you the unlock code and then essentially all you do is insert non-tesco sim card and it asks for an unlock code. Enter code you've been given and that's it.

• #13767
There must be a free way of doing it.
-
• #13768
Yes, how do you think the eBay monkeys get their codez?
-
• #13769
What's the seller you used dave? Adrienne just got the 16gig from tesco. pick up Friday.
Or, if anyone knows a free way...

Reboot worked a charm. Which is a bit embarrassing as you basically asked if I'd tried turning it on and off again. Oh dear.
Thanks hippy.

Samsung S3 just got the 4.3 update

• #13774
^ I got 4.3 on my S3 a month or so ago and it was so bad it prompted me to root and install CM. How come you've only just got it? Does it actually work this time around?
