  • So, I dial my mortgage provider using their number off the saynoto0870 site (http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php) and Android goes and does caller id on it.

    Freaky.

"shows names for people and businesses not in your contacts"

  • that's a very useful option, wish they'd send me my kitkat already though

  • I am getting a new phone delivered tomorrow (HTC One) so am spending this evening taking all the shit off my current phone (sensation), just wondering if there is a way I can transfer the saved wifi networks and passwords from the sensation?? I am pretty useless at technology so is there any way I can do this without any of that rooting business as per here??? http://zackeryfretty.com/posts/retrieve-saved-wireless-passwords-on-android

  • As mentioned in last couple of pages if you backup your phone to Googles servers when you activate a new device it will tfr the backup deets inc passwords to the new device

Sorry- wasn't clear but I was posting in reference to the chat a couple of pages back about backing up to Google and should have said I have a version of android that I think pre-dates this nifty function...

  • I went from Sensation to N4 2 months ago and it worked for me

  • Ignore me. Figured it out!

  • Been using my lg g2 (running cm 10.2) all day since 6.45am. Have flashed a ROM update during the day and just general use on and of all day, including a bit of video and some app installs.

It is now 10.28pm. I have 51 percent battery remaining.

    Nice.

  • Le sigh.

What ever happened to "do no evil"?

  • It drowned in $$$$$$

  • As everyone predicted it would.

The real surprise is that it did so under this leadership. The (obviously naive) belief was that it would only change under future leadership.

What ever happened to "do no evil"?

Did anyone actually believe that shit?

    PR nonsense.

    got my upgrade, at last

just called a number for a first time, then looked at the phone and it said exactly who I called

also full-screen album art on the lock screen is pretty cool feature, even if played something of soundcloud

I scrolled below the fold and was pleasantly surprised...

Not to be overly paranoid but... do you think any manufacturers or carriers "leaned" on them?

    Klaas
This is not paranoy, it's simply marketing. Do you really think that OHA feels good knowing that custom ROMs work better than stock ones?

    KaoriCamellia
That's a kernel of wisdom right there.

    François Villeneuve
That's a microkernel of wisdom to you, buddy!

    Yeah it's freaky.

    It's based on 2 things:

    1) Google Plus accounts (and yes, if you have one then this is your Caller ID profile to others) or Android profile

    2) Partnerships with companies like http://www.localdatacompany.com/ as well as Google Places information, to pair phone numbers with businesses.

In your phone application you can turn off the sharing of whom you're calling with Google and disable the Caller ID function.

In your phone application you can also turn off "search local businesses when you search your phone contacts".

To disable your profile being used as Caller ID, you need to opt out: https://www.google.com/settings/phone

  • If it works for you, great. Well done. Giffgaff was fucking shit for me.
Recurring goodybags which failed and used up my credit. No customer support. Less than 10kb/s connection speeds despite H+ connection. Being called a liar for blaming them (rightly) and not my bank. "better coverage" only in certain parts of the city, not out in the suburbs and the proper countryside.

You get what you pay for, O2's offcuts is what it feels like.

I have left giffgaff for 3 too, mainly due to the recent stupid advert.

  • also email app improved and looks better.

  • Yeah it's freaky.

I know there are hundreds of "who is this number and am I being spammed?" sites and the data quality on each is disappointing, but have they got any of that "nuisance" data feeding into the KitKat callerID system?

  • Am considering buying my auld and untechy mum a Tesco Hudl for Christmas. Will be almost solely for skypeing us so she can talk to her grandson and for looking at pictures of said grandson. Hopefully it will get her more into internet and emailing as well as she gets put off by using her rubbish PC.

Seems to get some good reviews for being good but not flashy. Anyone used one or have any thoughts on how a 65 year old mum would cope with it?

  • ^ i think its a good buy. I dont have one myself but I am a fanboi of people who designed the user experience for this (http://ustwo.com/2013/09/ustwo-creates-the-user-experience-for-tescos-hudl/) I am sure there must be lower price point (possibly far east) similar spec (or even higher maybe) tablets out there but if I want to spend my money I'd go with Hudl. Vanilla android and good user experience is pretty much all you need from a tablet in that range.

  • Probabaly a bit late but one of Asda's in store black friday deals today was a Galaxy S3 mini for £99

  • Anyone tried out SoundSeeder? - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kattwinkel.android.soundseeder.player

I've been trying to get it working, streaming music from my N5 to N7, both with KitKat, and I get very choppy playback. It's the streaming app I've been looking for, and I can't get it working :(
