  • Yeah you don't have enough info. It's degenerate. It reduces to:

    x - z - w = 0
    y - z + w = -1

  • It's very easy to solve using LFGSSian Fantasmagoriamiasm. Are you trying to tell us that you haven't mastered that?

  • Cheers. I thought that was the case but I wasn't sure if I was missing something new (my maths degree was a long time ago).

  • Just say it's 3 with confidence and people will believe you.

  • That was the answer I gave my kids to any impossible to answer questions.

  • If it's on University Challenge just say 1 or 0. One of them is usually right.

  • ...except when Paxman witheringly denies it, saying no, it was 'unity' or 'null'.

  • So one can with normal BB30 bearings, although there's a bit of play with additional spacing. Good enough for a turbo setup.

  • For any value of w, this gives a straight line in 3d space. Sweeping through a range of w gives a nicely angled surface.

  • Time tracking apps? Either Mac OS or Android. Ideally free but I'd consider a paid option if it was part of some invoicing software. We currently use Zoho which I don't love. Ideally, I'd like some kind of widget on the desktop of a Mac (or better yet, app that automatically opens and starts when I click an icon in the dock). I don't want something browser based. Minimal clicks ftw.

  • Got a relatively beefy carbon bladed CX fork with canti and disc mounts on my commuter.

Using a disc for braking so the canti mounts aren't serving any purpose. Would it be inadvisable to use this type of rack on it for light loads of <10kg (since it's a carbon fork)? The crown hole can't be used so would need to use jubilee clips or sth similar around the handlebars to stabilise it.

    Safe or terrible idea?

  • don't do it.

  • Do it instantly (I am your dentist).

  • Trying to work out whether or not this derailleur cage is twisted / bent out of shape

Not as evident as when viewing it irl but better than a picture.. anyone able to advise?

    Thanks!

  • A still image would actually be more useful.

  • I’ve read/watched a bit about using Wahoo with Garmin mounts, but has anyone modified the SRAM ‘out front’ mount to accept Wahoo?

  • Is it normal for there to be play in the freehub body of a DT Swiss hub? It's a R32 Spline, not much used, perhaps 300 miles. There is no play in the axle. It's the freehub rotor that can be pushed/pulled side-to-side, in and out, not by much, just 1mm or so. As a result there is the same play in the cassette, even with the correct spacers fitted and the lock ring properly tightened. Is that usual? None of my other freehub rotors do it.

  • What's up with 90s MTB geo?

Looking at an 18" ST (for people 5'6 to 6'0 acc to the chart) - seems odd to go as low as 5'6 for a frame with 58.5cm ETT and 110mm stem.

Is there some sort of geo trickery going on, or were people just buying much more stretched out race geo frames back then?

  • Bike fit was a lot more road/cx influenced. As you add more front suspension, having a forward centre of gravity becomes more of a problem at full compression.

  • Pretty sure 90’s mtb was a clusterfuck for sizing; narrow bars and long stems and loads of change around the threadless headset revolution. Good luck.

Every few weeks for the past quarter of a century, somebody has come along and told us that they have solved all our problems forever, when what they have actually done is, at best, optimised their compromises for their personal problems on one route as of the previous week.

  • At least it’s not the UCI putting a set-square on the saddle and measuring bar drop, oh...wait...

  • At least it’s not the UCI

If UCI thought anybody was gaining anything from dicking about with MTB geometry, they'd soon be along with their measuring jigs to stop it 🙂

  • Any decent jewellery maker should be able to solder that back on. Metal Crumble in Stoke Newington Church St has done things for me before

Does something like this fit the bill?
