sounds simple, but a mousetrap. Don't get one of those box ones, they're not dumb enough to crawl into a tiny box, get a snappy one with a bit of peanut butter as bait. Try and watch them and see where they go, they will stick to one route in/out, so place in their way.

I tried those plastic ones at our old flat, with peanut butter. We even put peanut butter, chocolate and raisins in them but they never worked. One also sponaneously snapped (the actual plastic) for no reason and it fired peanut butter across the bedroom :/

or do what I did, and lay in wait for it, then catch it with your own hands when it isn't looking.

I've tried this, again at our old flat, the fucker was too fast for me. There was no point where it wasn't looking.

2nd floor flat, lots of stairs, no cat flaps, no option for a cat rope/stairway. And they're not allowed by the landlord.

Maybe I'll give them another go, but might try to get some wooden rat traps instead. I have heard rat traps are very 'definitive' for mice, I don't like the idea of them suffering, but it's gone a bit far in this flat and they need to go.
