  • is there a rule about the seatpost and the stem being the same brand?

Yes. The default rule is your stem and seat post should match - definitely aesthetically, ideally by brand.

Enve seatposts are meant to be good, but the stems look gash and aren't worth it. So they are not an option. You're right Thomson are boring and their road stems are ugly.

  • what kind of bb does it take?

The one that works with your cranks.

  • is there a rule about the seatpost and the stem being the same brand?

No but its nice to keep things matchy

And what do people think about Enve for stem and seatpost? Their prices seem a bit rich even for a vanity project...

The seatposts look nice but the stems look terrible. Enve finishing kit is a bit try hard imo.

As you said, Thomson is boring. Its decent performance and weight wise but nothing groundbreaking.

    Zipp SL Speed
    Ritchey Superlogic
    Deda Superzero or superleggero
    Pro Vibe

Just a few slightly less ordinary finishing kit sets out there which I like (the look of)

  • Will sram apex 10 speed shifters work with a GX type 2.1 10 speed rear derailleur?

I assume it will, both being 10 speed, but the shifters are not described as having 'exact actuation' on the sram website. The 10 speed apex RD is though, so am I right in saying that the combination will work?

  • Go beard and get Nitto.

  • @PhilDAS, I do like the look of Ritchey Superlogic kit. :-)

@withered_preacher, Nitto almost makes me not want to cancel my trip to Japan next month... almost... Also I am looking for black this company seems to love a bit silver kit, don't they?

  • What's a likely culprit then there's a regular grinding noise coming from a rear wheel. Only does it when coasting, not pedaling.

I'm assuming something to do with the freehub?
    On a mavic aksium wheel.
    How serviceable are they?

On a totally related note, what's a good strong 32 spoke 11 speed build for a 'nice' steel commuter
I don't know anything about road hubs...

  • Anyone on here able to collect an item from a seller in Hackney and drop it off in St.Albans (with my brother)? Or he could come collect from you.

Thought I would ask on the chance someone might commute between the two?

  • @amey @spotter cheers, thought so.

  • Can I get these anywhere cheaper than planet X for a tenner plus post? They're just m5 bolts with an m5 thread on the end

  • A bit hipster as in modern art galleries, craft beer, warehouse arts district, food trucks, etc so probably more the former than the latter.

  • will this work?

    delete game data
    backup ps1/ps2 saves and delete
    put 54x60gb hd in 54x80gb ps3
    put 72x750gb hd in 60gb ps3
    format as necessary
ps3 data transfer utility the 54x60 to the 72x750

PS3 transfer is mad slow even over ethernet but if I delete as much as possible, return most settings to default etc surely some time is saved with less data?
My worry, my question is though, will the different rpms clash? I got this hdd to do an upgrade in a lappy like 5 years ago and it wouldnt simply backup and restore. The Apricorn hardware kept telling me I cant write from 54 to 72 they must match, is this true in all cases? Will the above steps explode in my face rendering me homeless?!??

  • Why would anyone want to cancel a trip to Japan?!

  • Because I was also meant to go to HK and pop over to Japan for a few days in order to minimise my stay in HK (I was born there and hate that place with passion). Now HK isn't happeneing anymore until probably sometime in the summer and I am not sure if I will have time to go to Japan then. Still aimming to coz tickets between HK and Japan can be had for around £50 - £150...

My friend once managed to get return tickets for his parents from HK to Japan for £2.

  • I have never heard of a 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm drive 'clashing'.

Disks differ in data density, so a faster spinning drive does not necessarily imply faster data transfer. Caching also affects data transfer speed for small files.

I guess it's possible if you're using some kind of naive hardware cloning system that expects the two disks to be identical and just streams data straight from one to another.

But anything via an OS of any kind should just deal with varying read/write speeds. I sometimes clone disks all day over network and it just takes longer with older, slower disks or if network is congested.

  • I do like the look of Ritchey Superlogic kit. :-)

It's nice stuff. I used to have two bikes with Superlogic finishing kit. Now sadly I only have one, because it seems one of them has been nicked. Bugger.

  • the whole bike or just the nice bits?

PS: I am sure you whole is just very nice!

  • So finishing kit decided, now it's wheels time.

If I want to use these tyres , would these rims be any good?

I am thinking maybe I ought to go a little thinner, but then the whole point of running big tryes and having 650B is just that, fat. If I am to run thinner tryes, it would make more sense to stick a pair of 700C on, wouldn't it?

  • How bad an idea is it to dent a brake bridge of an aluminium frame to fit a larger tyre in?

  • Cut the fucker off, stupid bridge getting in the way.

  • Burn it!

  • the whole bike or just the nice bits?

PS: I am sure you whole is just very nice!

Whole bike, including nice bits. Me whole is definitely not nice though.
