What kind of wax or oil would be good for finishing off this plywood laminate ball?

Depends what you're going to do with it but Osmo Polyx would be worth looking at if it's going near children/dogs or you don't want a shiny finish. It's pricey though.

Linseed oil could be a good cheaper option. You have to be careful with how you store it and rags you've used with it though to prevent spontaneous combustion.

Thanks. It needs sanding, then I just would like it to feel smooth and tactile and warm, not hard/varnished. Won't be near dogs/young kids but intended to be picked up.

Is there some sort of sturdy funnel type apparatus that I could utilise in order to fill my butt?
Gotta love this forum.

no experience with them - and would not be sure of the power of the jet but looks like its on the right track - supply a bucket of water though.

Does the forum think it's worth spending ~£60 on SSD* for an 7yo laptop with 3GB RAM** running lubuntu? Or is it better to put that money towards a 2014-15 ultrabook that already has an SSD and can probably run Windows 10?
*Crucial BX300 240GB SATA 2.5 SSD

Depends if it's useful for you to have an old laptop hanging around.

I've recently bought a Lenovo x230 (i5, 8GB RAM) from 2012. I stuck a 256GB MSATA drive (from eBay for £60ish) in it and put Win10 on it and it runs fine. Proper fast.

Cheers.
That sort of decides it. For not a huge amount more I could get something a bit less old that could run W10 whereas the current laptop will always have to be linux.... no bad thing TBH as I'm always amazed how well lubuntu works especially since discovering you can save libreoffice files as MS ones. Still nice to have the choice.
I guess if I see a super cheap SSD come up for ~£40 that would be worth it.
@hamrack - good point.

Depends on the laptop partly.
My main laptop is probably 6 years old but that is an i7 with 16GB of RAM, it runs everything perfectly fine.
I've also got a similar age laptop (which I actually bought for £60) with SSD, i5 and 2GB of RAM that runs Linux Mint fine and is pretty snappy most of the time. I'd also expect it to run Win10 OK.

I absolutely hate LibreOffice. Recommend Google Docs for cloudiness

What do you use instead?
I need to use writer as abiword doesn't work with my screen, but am on the fence with Calc - functionally so far it seems similar to gnumeric, but does look a lot nicer.

Sorry if that wasn't clear; I use Google Docs. It has a word processor and spreadsheets and so on. They do work offline but not especially well, so the utility of it will depend whether or not you want to work on the train (for example).
For me personally it's great as I have 3 or 4 computers that I use for work depending on where I am and how lazy I feel. So if I want to sit in bed and work I can write on my laptop, but then when I go in to the office the next day and use my desktop computer it's all synced already.
I've been told it doesn't have all the features off Word etc. yet, but I only personally use it for basic stuff anyway; I use Python, LaTeX, whatever for proper writing and data processing. If you're already using LibreOffice on Linux I imagine you're in a similar situation to me.

When you calibrate your power meter on your head unit or do a spin down of your smart trainer via your laptop or phone - where is that calibration data stored? In the power device or the recording device?

There are so many options, but I like this for a non-toxic, zero VOC approach to wood finishing. You're definitely the first person to use it on laminate plywood as it's usually reserved for fine wood-working.

^ Careful which one you use, some come up very tacky and require serious handwork to get a good finish. Google their various products in discussion groups (you have the discussion button don't you?), you'll find which ones are easier to work with.

The power device. The power device might tell the recording device what the calibration figure is, but the recording device won't do anything with the number other than possibly display it to you.
