  • I don't understand.
What kinda wheelchair we talking about? 4 'fit' people as opposed to 'people' makes it sound like its gonna a powered chair with a larger occupant.
I don't think finding 4 people to help will be hard.
I think taking people will be your best bet. As others have said ask staff, not public. Could you and your organisers do it?
    Whats the event?

  • How long are you guys getting from BB30 bearings?

All PF and outboard bearings hate being hung up wet. If they get a real soaking pull the cranks and dry them out then re-grease them.

FWIW typically get 2-3k miles on BB30 bearings.

  • Fair enough. Probably par for the course then. It's cost £15 for a set from Sigma so not outrageous. Hopefully it's not too hard to smoosh new bearings into this Praxis shell.

  • Recommended clear lacquer for a frame?
Looking at Hycote since it's to go over a Hycote metallic colour spray, can't really tell the difference between "Bodyshop Clear Lacquer" and "Spraypaint/Basics Clear Lacquer", the Bodyshop one is more expensive. Not fussed about brand if someone can recommend one. I just need something fairly easy to use (ready mixed, comes in a spray can) and looking for final hardness/durability.

Edit: I emailed Hycote, and they said the normal one with a normal spray nozzle would be better for bikes, the bodyshop nozzle is better for big flat areas.

  • are there any reasonably priced 1" 700c disk fork options, ie non-custom?

  • Ultegra 6800 cranks on a BB30 SuperSix frame. What bottom bracket?

A mechanic suggested a press fit shimano 24mm (I think this won't fit shell). A friend suggested praxis converter BB (which sounds good).

  • Are these levers compatible with V brakes?

  • Praxis or similar. Is the Supersix BB30 (68mm) or BB30A (73mm)?

  • A friend suggested praxis converter BB

He's a good friend. Other conversion cups are available, but the Praxis seems to be more trouble free than cheaper pressed-in options.

  • ^^ 68mm

  • Is there a fast and easy way to 'mute/unmute all' notifications on iOS? Notification centre just has all the apps individually...

EDIT: Not airplane mode as I still want to be able to receive calls...
EDIT2: Do Not Disturb seems to be the ticket. Thanks all!

  • Merlin have the Praxis one for £53.99, the expanding collet has to be worth £4 🙂

  • yeah do it @FixedCheese the Praxis seems to be the one.

  • Anyone got a USB Bar Code Scanner that I can borrow?

OR where can I buy one on the highstreet? Maplins don't seem to have 'em when I briefly checked their site.

  • Cheers all. Going with the Praxis.

  • @Cycliste uses a Praxis converter BB with that combo. It works better than the native PF30 BBs that I use on my SuperSix. Recommended.

  • If the bike originally ran with cantis and they're the original levers, then no. Not well, anyway.

  • Would be good to know how thin it is between the splines. I went to 3 shops today and no one had a tool that worked.

  • Not a better organised parts bin, but by chance I was able to find one of my straps in the bottom of a box of bits (the other got chopped up as an emergency substitute for a lost o-ring :-) ). I only have the strap though, as both the plastic cap and the light are still in regular use.

@MCamb PM me your address and you are welcome to have it if you buy the forum a beer.

  • The Kona logo on those levers is from '91 - '93.

Kona did not produce a bike equipped with V-brakes during this time, they were all equipped with canti's.

Don't think they sold a v-brake equipped bike until '96.

So no, those levers are short-pull for canti's.

From the tiny amount of the fork I can see, I guess that your Fire Mountain is a '96 and should have come equpped with Acera-X canti's.

  • Loudest freehub that isn't made in USA?

  • My money is on Hope Pro.

My 8 speed Campag Mirage was crazy loud too tho.

  • Definitely Hope

  • Cool thanks, I switched wheels recently to one that was completely silent and find much more that people are unaware of where I am and pull out in front of me etc (cyclists)
Also found that peds crossing roads would look up when they heard it on my old wheels which wasn't particularly loud. Good alternative to a bell for commuting I reckon
