Quickest way to get a clean chain is to buy a new one :)

Do people still want PAC courier bags? Got a fairly well used, but still lots of life left, ultra. Not sure whether it's a donate, or sell to recoup moving costs, situation.

Put it in a robust plastic bottle such as an old bleach bottle, quarter fill with white spirit, shake like f**k, pour out the gunk into an other bottle. The gunk will settle out after a time and you can reuse the white spirit. Wipe and allow to dry.

This is what I do, except I use paraffin instead of white spirit because I have a bigger bottle of that.
White spirit would probably have the benefit of evaporating off the chain a lot quicker, whereas paraffin tends to stick around and dilute whatever lube you useAn old 4pt plastic milk bottle does the trick just fine, btw

where can i find historical flight data? I flew to florence recently and we were delayed by 8 hours which the airline blamed on high winds. However, the plane coming to us was the only flight that was delayed that day from florence so it seems unlikely (I remember checking online when we were waiting). how can i find the departure times of flights out of florence on the morning of the day we flew (16th July)?

Do you mean paraffin wax? No need to remove that, it's already a lubricant.

Another one I've tried, with degreaser in a large jar. Again, I never felt it managed to shift as much as other people said it would. Maybe I'm expecting too much. Or had shit degreaser.

You see, separated by a common language.

Before O ring motorcycle chains I used to stick a chain in a ice cream carton or similar and soak it in petrol. Then I'd hang the chain up to dry then coil it up and put it in solid wax and melt it on the stove. Something similar to what I used is still available now. Putoline wax
Potentially dangerous and messy but I did it at my mum's house.

Possibly the wrong thread but hopefully someone can advise: looking to put a 11 speed cassette minus a cog, on my 10 speed free hub. Both cassettes are shimano so think it would just be a spacing issue. I've seen online people doing this with the ultegra/DA I was wondering if there should be any issue doing it with a 105 11 speed cassette?
-
• #85018
What model is the hub, and what mech are you using?
-
• #85019
The largest 3 sprockets on 105 cassettes are fixed together, so in order to have a cassette without any large jumps in tooth size, you'll have to leave off the smallest (11/12T) sprocket.

You might need to space the remaining sprocket out in order to put the recommended torque on the cassette lockring.

My fridge smells when I open the door. I've emptied it out and there's nothing rotting away in there and wiped it all down but the smell persists.
Any suggestions on the next step, it appears to be getting worse.

I do this on my turbo with a cs5800 cassette. Presuming your shifters/mech are 11 speed?
Take out one of the loose cogs and a spacer. Put the spare spacer on the freehub first, behind the cassette, then fit the cassette (minus the cog you removed) as normal.

Possibly some feted water stuck in it somewhere? Is it a freezer, too?
You can buy odor consuming powder but it's a good idea to find the source rather than just covering it up.

Is there a drain for internal condensation anywhere? Might be blocked / have gunk in it. Search for "condensate drain" for your model.
-

Yep likely condensed water got rotting gunk in. Look for a drainage hole. See if you can fish anything out of it. Bicarbonate of soda is a good mild cleaner/ deodoriser. Maybe look up the manual of your fridge and see what maintenance is recommended.
I suspect none of my LBSs actually have parts washers. They're all tiny or rubbish. Need to investigate.
I used to boil my chains in strong detergent but I have my doubts as to how much dirt actually came out after. Maybe I'll just stick to the chain cleaner thingummy I have, probably does the job as good as any for manky stuff
