  • New Forest maybe?

  • Do you want a kid-friendly cycle-camping holiday (so an a-b route carrying all your stuff and camping along the way) or a camping holiday with good kid-friendly cycling in the vicinity?

  • Camping holiday with a kid friendly day/2day cycle or even just teaching them utility cycling so we are camping but need/want to cycle to the shops and somewhere to get lunch. Camel trail came to mind as I remember reading it's ex-railway so flat. Might look up new forest bike rentals as I remember camping that way before and it was ok.

  • Camel trail is nice, so is the Tarka trail for similar Devonian cycling - camping around both is excellent. Same vibe, and possibly easier transport links, would be the Peaks. Tissington trail and Monsal Trail are both lovely, mostly flat (old railway lines) but views are amazing - a couple of great viaduct sections that should get everyone excited. Really well kitted out with bike hire places and cafes along the routes. Never camped there, but saw loads of lovely campsites when I cycled through...

  • If you go on the tarka trail, Appledore is lovely.

  • +1 for Appledore. The Beaver Inn (stop sniggering at the back there) used to do a mean scrumpy too.

  • tarka

    Are you related?

  • I think i had a fling with a cousin of theirs, can't be sure though, people will make up claims to fame to impress.

  • So I recently had a Veloce groupset installed on an old Look frameset. First ride [and it's not gone away], I immediately noticed an odd gloopy feeling when pedalling, rather like there's an amount of tension in the chain that shouldn't be there. It gives the feeling of an uneven pedal stroke, but I'm not convinced that's the case. At higher speeds, it isn't really noticeable. I have changed rear wheels including cassettes, same problem exists. Any ideas where problem could lie - bottom bracket installation, too few links in chain/rear derailleur tension, could that cause this?

  • BB should feel smooth when you turn it by hand without cranks/chain, chain should be able to cover all gear combinations with the possible exception of the two biggest cogs on the cassette. other than that, wheel bearings? cassette body? pedals? well greased chain?

  • any suggestions for the least offensive tri-style behind the saddle bottle cage system?

(building a resprayed old Gazelle frame with modern parts and I don't want to band on the cages)

  • Thanks for suggestions, I've previously checked everything you say apart from the obvious BB test. Duh. Will do.

  • Who does Miche Primato hub replacement bearings? I got cheap £2 generic bearings, but after just 300 miles they're gritty.

Any brand that's good will do, really. Don't have to be Miche.

  • Any brand that's good will do, really

Get any brand that's good from a bearing shop, e.g. Simplybearings.co.uk
I like SKF but FAG are fine too.

  • Thanks, that's the ones I have at home, got them on evilbay some time ago, will pop them in. (thought maybe I bought wrong ones again)

  • Which latex inner tube?

  • Challenge>Michelin>Vittoria IMO, but others will tell you they're all equal.

  • Just to confuse I like Vittorias more than Michelin. Never tried challenge.

  • I like Vittorias more than Michelin

Ditto, I've had a lower failure rate with Vittoria. Some people like the Vredestein ones too, so we're not helping :-)

  • Vittoria was recently the cheapest at around £5 on PBK recently, so I bought those.

    THEY'RE ALSO PINK!!

  • Just come back from Zagreb.

Can strongly recommend the Swanky Mint Hostel.

Croatia Airlines are pretty good, count bikes as a unit of baggage, economy includes a checked bag, a snack and a drink, business includes two checked bags, a meal with pudding and two drinks. On the other hand, I was in business on the way back and the only main they had for everyone was a Salmon-think with a separate salad. There was 3 of us, so I had 3 salads and they had an extra half of Salmon each. The staff did come back later to give me two of the economy snacks in case I was still hungry, and luckily I did like the snacks.

We paid about £260 each flying out of Heathrow T3 on Friday night, back to T2 on Monday night.

  • Does anyone have a sram yaw 11spd front dereailleur that actually works as advertised. Ie small small and big big combinations don't rub? I cannot for the life of me set it up to do this without rub.

    Ain't you good at maths?

  • Any suggestions for a free PDF reader that also lets you do OCR to create a searchable PDF? Something where you can also manipulate (rearrange, insert, delete pages) would be good.
