Cheap, black 20h front MTB disc hub pls? Or a 20-24 pair. 6 bolt 135mm QR ideally. I like novatec but bdop's site doesent have any front 20h hub.

20h and disc? lol no.

rly? Was chuffed that I scored some kinlin rims CHEAP :(
Rider weight 50kg, use commuting etc. -

Easton EC90 XC rims were 20/24... EDIT: Turns out the 26er version is 20h, 29er is 24h
@amey look for cx disc hubs e.g. http://www.edgesportsuk.com/store/index.php/home-page-products/edge-design-cyclocross-disc-hubs-front-rear-20-24h-11speed.html
Or go 40h tandem disc hub and just lace up every other hole...

they look good for the price; are they just rebadged novatec? SBC Cycles will be building them onto Kinlin XC279 rims. What spokes, build pattern will make them strong?
Also found few novatecs (old ones I think) on Aliexpress that come in 20/24 but they weigh a LOT.

The rims need to be designed for the forces of disc brakes, otherwise I could see the spokes just pulling through.

No idea. Wheelbuilding thread >>>>

3x for disc brakes. Double butted at minimum, DT Comps or Alpines. (28 spokes minimum as well, IMO...)

20h and disc?
Crossmax, but as you say, LOL no for hubs to be laced with normal spokes.

Front brake torque is not much more than rear drive torque, I'd happily use 24H disc hubs. The old Crossroc UST had normal J-bend steel spokes and 24H 2X both ends, and they were fine.

I'll see what the wheelbuilder says I guess .. otherwise will 'upgrade' road bike wheels to wide rims.
-

Didn't see he'd mentioned rims. Most info on 20h CX disc builds seems to focus on carbon rims anyway, assume they're reinforced by default (e.g. Reynolds originally releasing their Assault disc wheelset with brake surfaces...)

Are you sure? The 26" wheels are 20/20 and I thought the 29" ones were 24/24.

I think you're right.

Building a 1x10 frankenbike since I've got a random 10speed rear wheel - gonna use a downtube shifter but will I need a 10 speed rear mech? Assume it's not possible to bodge anything less than 10speed since it won't be able to move far enough?

The rear dérailleur travel is the same for 8, 9 and 10 speed (they just squeeze more sprockets into the same width by narrowing the chain), so you can use an 8 or 9 speed RD on a 10-speed cassette. In fact, you can probably get away with a 6 or 7 speed RD too, as they had only about 3mm less travel and there was always some wiggle room to allow for dropout geometry variation, hence the limit screws. Potentially, using a lower speed RD makes shifting slower/less precise as the cage plates get progressively further apart as you drop down the speed range, but it only really gets bad if there is a large mismatch.

Need to post some legal doc oversea, been looking at prices and DHL seems to be the best value for money and it's one of the better ones that I know of. Any other suggestion?
Its a very important doc that if it's lost, it won't just cost money but a whole bag of hassle for me to get it replaced.

Ah cool. It's now all academic, just realised I've got a spare 10spd rear mech (Ultegra's perfect for a frankenshopperbike, right?).
Next question - that modern mech'll work with a downtube shifter, right? -
• #71120
Oh fuck, now I just realised I'm being an idiot - it's a campag wheel/cassette, and a shimano mech. That won't work at all, will it?
-
• #71121
Why not.? i.e. if in friction mode yes it will work.

Any 130mm bcd 46t wide narrow chainrings currently available in the UK?
-
• #71123
Oh really? Sweet. I assumed there was a difference in teeth or something.

• #71124
hm, no action over at the wheelbuilding thread, ok if I ask this here?
I have some ideas, but what rim would people here recommend for a build with these parameters?
28H
700c
makes a nice round profile for 35mm tires
has brake trackthanks!

Archetype?
FWIW when you go more than 32mm, it not really that noticeable unless it's stupidly narrow.
To be honest probably not as I didn't have any issues with using what I could salvage / what was in the parts bin. Good luck with it!
