Seems expensive. My LBS only charge 3p to remove a bottom bracket.

Why not? What do I need to get Ultegra 6700 cranks on a Systemsix?
-
• #68454
you need a bb to fit in a system six, which likely has a bb30 shell (I think), not the threaded variety like that standard bb.
bb30 options are to use a one piece unit such as rotor or praxis which will allow you to run shimano cranks, or run a proper bb30 with adapters.

one of these might do it
That's PF30, which is not the same as BB30

which is why me adding my 2p worth is usually a bad idea...
what is pf30 even?
-
• #68459
Push fit. BB 30 is normally plain cartridge bearings held in a machined shell using circlips (afaik)

pf30 is pressfit 30 in bb30: electric boogaloo.

"Cannondale's Chris Peck provided BikeRadarwith specific details. While BB30's bearing bore tolerances are 41.96 +0.025/-0mm (meaning the bore can be slightly oversized but not undersized), PF30's requirements are 46.00 +0/-0.05mm – exactly half as rigorous."

Kind of the other way round. The axle and bearings are the same as BB30, but the shell bore is bigger and has soft plastic shims between bearing and shell to take up the larger tolerances.

Ah I was more alluding to the fact that pf30 came after bb30 as a "sequel". bad joke form from me, I'll show myself out now.

Well, that's an odd way of saying it. Normal engineers would call that 42mm -0.015 -0.040. Yeah, that's right, I gave negative values to both tolerance limits. It's described that way because the tolerances are actually interference fits on a nominal 42mm diameter insert. The bearing itself will be 42mm +0.000 -0.011 for a standard industrial quality cartridge, so the BB30 standard means that even the smallest bearing won't rattle around in the biggest shell, and the biggest bearing won't either split open the smallest shell or get squeezed too tight to run freely by the 40μm interference.

Ok everyone thanks for the replies, my lbs also advised me that a Praxis model converter would be most reliable, worth the extra £30 over the Tektro? Linked above?
-
• #68467
would these work then?
Those work, but you have to get the BB30 bearings pressed in first (~£25 + labour), so really more of a temporary bodge to fit a 24mm axle into a bike which has already been built up with a BB30 crank and no cheaper than the Praxis if you don't already have the bearings in place.

I've got a carbon railed Specialized Romin saddle. I'm planning on going on a credit card tour and will be putting a saddle bag on, or tie a stuff sack with clothes on.
I'm having no luck getting one on eBay.
The question is whether I fork out the £70 for a new metal railed one, or will the carbon railed one be OK?

Daylight robbery, pure and simple. My LBS pay me tuppence for the privilege of removing mine.

It's pretty easy to turn upper-case 'P' and 'F' into 'B's, though.

Anyone got either of the Feed Zone books and can comment on how many veggie friendly recipes there are?
-
• #68474
I've got feed zone portables and it's not too bad - most of the veggie rice cake and two-bite pie recipes are sweet (only something like one savoury veggie option for each), but the frittata and eggy things are mostly vegetables with a few sweet & savoury options. Tbh you only really need to look at one or two of the rice cake and two-bite pie recipes to get the idea and come up with your own versions anyway, assuming you'd prefer savoury options over sweet.

Hmm, okay, maybe I should just borrow it instead then. Think I need to keep eating on the bike more. (MOAR?!)
I'm not even joking about the 4p.
