  • I did try this, made sod all difference, no way I'm going to get a tyre lever in.

  • I might try this, the only thing so far that I haven't tried already.

  • 'meaty & spicy'

spicy = 'get-out-of-jail-card' for food processor with offal.

Possibly a 'cut' not considered a primary foodsource in the West

  • Read this yesterday with interest. My difficulties are with 2-19 moped tyres on 60 year old chromed steel rims - clearly different to TB14s, but much the same problem of a 'tight' tyre.
Entertained myself for a few hours yesterday evening, comprehensively failing to fit a tyre, even after following all the advice I could find.
Decided the biggest problem was getting the tyre to move in and out of the 'well' in the middle of the rim.
Lubricated with diluted washing up liquid this morning - went on easily with a pair of plastic tyre levers...

  • Looking for the (supposedly) simplest solution,
I now run into the Shimano MA, MB etc designations,
50/34 which is currently fitted on the bike is MA
    52/36 is MB
Does this mean that any attempt to 'change up' from the British Cycling U16 reg meeting 36T ring to the 50T will result in chain mangling?

Won't be a problem on the Hillingdon track as the larger ring will be 'locked off'.

    You can read it?

  • I can't but a friend can.

There's some other shit here but I can't be bothered with it.

Fuling cake seems to contain fungus and a lot of glaces type plums or cherries or something.

  • yeah did the same and my heart sank at the £25-£50 results, but they all seemed to be garish ltd edition models, and seeing how they retail new for £140-£180 was hoping for something a bit more to my liking moneywise...

  • I'll give you a tenner.

    Seductively numbing, seductively spicy.
    Numbingly spicy duck heart.

  • Could you get the tyre off again though? Less of an issue for you I suppose...

  • yeah, I'm just wondering if my measurements would all change with different STAs.

    you've sold 'em to me!

  • As 'numbingly spicy' as the Korean octopus dish?

I'd be pretty relaxed about that, but then I grew up in an era when double chainrings were a novelty and they certainly didn't have any ramps/pins/lowered teeth. Using a 36 with a 50 might take you back to shifting that's only as good as the previous component generation, not the previous millennium. 36 officially works with either a 46 or a 52 anyway, so the synchronisation can't be that critical.

  • Thank you for that re-assurance.
    I had a 10-speed, (2 x 5), moment recently,
pulled away from a set of traffic lights,
and in a moment of relaxation/day-dreaming/distraction,
'automatically' reached for the down tube shifter,
    which of course wasn't there!
(Apart from a couple of miles on mespilus jr's 653/friction 105
I haven't ridden a bike with down tube shifters since the early '90s).

  • Moped / autocycle panniers are suitably cavernous and weight is not an issue: I carry a small bottle of sanitizing hand gel as part of the tool kit - used frequently for hand cleaning after roadside 'maintenance' and theoretically* might act as an alternative lubricant. Drum brakes front and rear means I shouldn't have to worry about lubricating the braking surfaces.

*one of my many unproven theories - as yet untested given to the lack of punctures so far, and if I'm wrong my insurance includes recovering the bike to home...

  • I've got a similar problem with some gatorskins on some wider than normal rims with a profile like that shown by tester... almost no well.
Every time I've had a puncture I've got a train home and then spent some time wrestling the tyre off and fixing at home.
Perceivirance (however it's spelt) is the main thing.
I'm going to build another wheel, it's defo the rim (a bargain at £5 for 48hole, now I know why), as I recently got a durano for the front and Kojak for the back, the kojak didn't fit in the stays, but the durano did(*). All three gatorskin, durano and Kojak were a nightmare to put on.

*both 26x1.35 both made by schwable, both totally different sizes, wtf?
