I've got a route book that is giving six figure OS map references. Is there any way to pinpoint these without buying six maps? gridreferencefinder.com seems to put these about 200km west of Cornwall.

If you put "OS grid [A-Z][A-Z] [000-999] [000-999]" into google and click on the 'Maps' tab, the map will be centred on the OS grid reference

Actually, you were right before the edit. I was omitting the two letter map code, which for some reason the guide does not mention (actually, it never even mentions what maps you need).

Scrap metal. Yes. I know. Leave it on the street and someone will get it.
However, if I wanted to call a yard/merchant would they come out and collect an old electric oven? For free?
Anyone have any experience of this? -

Reflex tub rim - ano has worn off. Remember seeing somewhere that this is the beginning of the end - or do they have life left?
Braking surface doesn't have wear to it beyond the lack of ano.

looks perfectly fine to me. ano wears off; its only a thin layer on the alu.
the rim has ages life left; once the wall gets concave then its fubard.
you can also for peace of mind measure the width of the rim wall. there are guides on the interwebs until which thickness its safe. other rims have wear indicators; a milled line on the rim with a certain depth and when it disappears, its a sign of rim death. -

Seems unlikely, there's not much in there for them. Prices are quite low at the moment, you're probably looking at £60/ton if you take it to them, not worth the trip for either party.

Ta - that's what I thought :)

I can't get this to work, for instance I've typed "OS grid [N][G] [611] [526]" (minus the quotation marks) which according to this http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/bothy-details.asp?bothy_id=27 should give a bothy near Skye. I don't get anything near that. What have I done wrong?

I hope you're not advocating leaving it on the street.

According to here: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong-gridref.html
It's 57 degrees North.
which is here:
Which is next to Skye...
And LR 24 is Landranger 24 no?

Did you leave the brackets in your query string? You're not supposed to, they're just there in my post to denote regexp
-
• #68294
Yeah thats where I was expecting it to be, however I was interested to see if this would work on google maps.
Did have brackets, now don't have brackets. Still no luck...

Does repeatedly removing and installing a sram crankset (gxp) in any way start to damage the axle/crank interface with time? (swapping between bikes regularly)

Do you often see tatty looking vans driving around your area or those bigger ones with the cage on the back and full of all sorts of tat? If so and they don't have any local authority livery on them, move your rubbish outside and flag one down. They'll take it. Just don't let them inside.

Disappointing. It worked for me for a test location, but on further testing it seems to rely on specific places having been linked to a grid reference in google's database, rather than google programmatically converting OS grid references to lat and long. Seems like such a basic function that it's surprising to find google falling down on the job like that.

As long as the splines are greased and free of debris, it will take a long time to wear off enough material to affect the fit.

No, your council should take it to their recycling facility if you notify them.
Go to a bike shop and ask them.
