Hello,
Tech question that I hope someone might be able to answer.
I have this Toshiba GJ277 hard drive that I salvaged from my laptop that died suddenly. I want to get the files from it, but it doesn't fit in any other laptops that I have access to. Is there some sort of adaptor or case I can get and maybe turn it into an external HD?
Any help greatly appreciated, cheers...

Can't you get an external HD case from PC World?

I've no idea, I'm not very tech savvy. It might be that simple, I don't know. I hope so!

you can get a dock that you you just drop the dive in, some are sata only, sata + ide and some do 2.5 and 3.5in DD's. the dock connects to your computer via usb or e-sata.
they are about £30-£50.
or a caddy. you need to work out if it's sata or ide
can't help with 1.8 drives, dunno about those. -

Take that disc with you to Maplins or somewhere - they will help you.
Don't go to Currys. You will loose it and murder your family after waiting for 40mins to be served. -

If you buy that case EEI linked to you just need to put it inside - it looks like it comes with the required wires. Then plug into USB port and you can get your files.
Just had a look on Maplin's site and they don't seem to sell 1.8" cases - not surprising as they're not really a common size yet, laptop HDDs have been 2.5" for years, 1.8" must be newer.

According to this spec:
http://refurbishpcmall.com/?p=products&a=view&i=2765Your drive is 44 pin IDE. So you'd need something which connects up to that interface.
EEI's link doesn't say what it links up to, I just found a similar one on play but is says it is for 'CE-ATA'. There seem to be different standards for teeny HDDs which complicates things.

Thank you. I'm sure I should be able to find a case now, bearing in mind the spec you've just told me.
Cheers...

Ok, this is what you need:
http://www.dc-battery.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/15024If not that exact one, a USB case for a 1.8" drive with a 44 pin connection.
No worries.

What's the difference between the "Today's Posts" and "New Posts" pages?
-
• #6849
New Posts doesn't include anything you've already looked at....
-
• #6850
Today's Posts shows all thread active today, including the ones you've read. New Posts does what it says on the tin, i.e. it shows all threads that have new postings since you last read them.
As you know I had 16 spokes Shamal on the back and my weight fluctuates between 83 and 90kg.
The wheel died under me when going over a small kerb. Hope it helps.
